First of all, how are you and your family doing in these Pandemic times?

We are doing very well during this unique and unprecedented historical moment.

It has been a long road for everyone, but we find joy, creativity and positivity in little moments and take each day with an open mind and hearts.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on my clients, as well as myself.

For many clients, disrupting their routines and lifestyles has increased stress and anxiety.

To counteract this, I have provided extra support through additional coaching sessions and customised resources such as exercises and activities designed to help them manage their emotions.

Additionally, I have shifted all of my client meetings online.

As for myself, I am so happy to connect with clients worldwide, and I have been reminded of how important it is to focus on self care and prioritise taking care of myself to be better equipped to coach others.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

The greatest lesson I have learned is the power of creativity, persistence and adaptability.

No matter what happens, it’s important to maintain a sense of hope, inner resourcefulness, and solution based thinking, keep pushing forward and never give up.

This is a lesson I take with me every day, both professionally and personally.

It has been especially necessary during the last few years when so much has been uncertain.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I am a coach, psychologist and qualified teacher specialising in ADHD coaching.

I have worked with clients in this field since 2003, and it has become my passion.

My interest in ADHD coaching began when my first client was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

I realised he needed extra support to manage it.

Seeing how much anxiety, doubt and low self esteem he experienced, I wanted to help him feel more confident and equipped to handle life’s challenges.

This led me down the path of researching and learning more about neurodiversity while also taking courses on effectively coaching people diagnosed with this condition.

After years of working in educational settings gaining practical experience and professional development in psychology and coaching, I decided to pursue executive function coaching as a more meaningful way to use my skills and knowledge.

I turned my passion into a career that has allowed me to use my expertise to coach others to discover their potential, lead more fulfilling lives and make a meaningful impact.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

One of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome was a lack of self confidence and belief in myself as a teenager due to my executive function challenges.

Growing up, I often felt unseen and unheard and doubted my academic abilities.

But as I went through life and gained more practical experience, I began to recognise my strengths and build on them.

Through work, dedication, and determination, I overcame my concentration, procrastination, and self belief challenges and now consider them the main driving forces behind who I am today.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

To ensure successful outcomes for my clients, I always stay up to date with the latest neuroscientific research and approaches in ADHD coaching.

I’m constantly reading journals, attending workshops and courses, and connecting with other psychologists, psychotherapists and coaches to discuss new ideas and methods of working.

I also take an individualised approach that considers each client’s goals, challenges, and external factors and provides customised resources such as books, exercises and activities designed to help them reach their goals.

Lastly, I continuously check in with my clients for feedback on their progress and encourage and push them as needed.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

My unique approach to ADHD coaching draws on my professional and academic background in education, psychology and coaching and my 20 year experience mentoring neurodiverse groups.

I focus on building a strong self image and creating a personalised holistic program that incorporates current research and evidence based practices.

My goal is to go beyond addressing surface level issues by getting to the root of things to achieve lasting results.

I empower my clients with the tools and resources they already have and share new tools with them so that they take control of their lives and reach their goals faster.

I also work closely with neurodiverse clients to boost communication, leadership and social skills for reaching success in all areas of life.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

My clients gain insights into their personal and professional life, better understand their strengths, identify and work through blocks to success, and cultivate greater self awareness and clarity.

On top of that, they cultivate a winning mindset and learn useful tools and strategies for thriving.

As a result, my clients feel more confident, empowered, focused, inspired, and driven towards achieving their goals.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

Yes, my approach is eclectic and integrative, and I use various tools to be efficient with my clients.

Depending on the client’s needs, I may incorporate different techniques.

Additionally, I provide helpful resources such as educational materials and books that support my clients in understanding, accepting and loving who they are.

The Impact:

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Focus on what you can do in your life right now to improve it.

Develop strategies and tools tailored to your strengths and needs and use them to build a life you feel proud of.

Take time to reframe challenging situations into opportunities for growth and remember that everyone has the power to create positive change.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

I believe that lifelong learning, radical open mindedness and the ability to build meaningful connections and work are the most important lessons in life.

They require humility, transparency and openness but the rewards are life changing.

Your final thoughts?

All people with a diagnosis, traits or suspicion of ADHD deserve a neurodiversity and inclusion friendly environment to learn, grow and thrive.

I aim to provide guidance and resources so clients can realise their goals and work towards living a life they love.

Find Life Coach | Meet Ryan Girvan: How to Transform Your Health, Mind, and Body Into Their Greatest Version?

Ryan Girvan is one of the coaches that we found this month and we did a little interview with him. He impressed us with his courage and strength of character.

He went through a hard upbringing. He was the oldest of 4 siblings who had disabilities so all of the responsibility fell on his back. In 2014 he lost his grandma and year after his mother. He was living a life of going out, drinking, doing drugs… but something stronger within him didn’t let him continue down that path.

He had a greater dream. Something so powerful that screamed “change your life” within him, every night he would come home. Despite all of his suppressed emotions and traumas, he stopped. He focused on fitness, and he found a way to exorcise his demons. All of that shaped him into the coach he is today.

His approach now is focused on helping people transform their selves, their spirit, mind, health and body into their best version. Here is what he said.

Meet Life Coach Ryan Girvan:

find-life-coach-ryan-girvan

Name: Ryan Girvan

Pillar: The Spirit, The Mind, The Body

Who is this coach for: Anyone who wants to transform into their best selves.

How they can help: Through various tools and techniques like reframing, values determination, vision planning, breathing, learning mindfulness in training, just to name a few.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these Pandemic times?

Honestly? I am ignorant of the pandemic right now.

It affected me back in 2020 through 2021 but in 2022 I’ve pretty much settled back into my routine.

I’m grateful I’ve managed to keep my coaching business operating and a calm mind through turbulent times.

Investing my time and energy fully into my personal and professional growth is what kept me going and growing.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

It did, but not now. My clients mental and physical health was challenged.

A reduction in general physical activity, social isolation, too much spare time, excessive eating/drinking, stress, anxiety, depression, disrupted routines, financial stresses, job losses, on top of the fear from the media…

My clients were affected a lot.

But in this time of challenge also came the opportunity for my clients to practise mindful walks, being present in nature, coming together in online group programmes, connecting with new people, time to plan and think about their future, where they’re going, who they are, what they value.

It made my clients aware of their tendencies and how easy it is to fall into unhealthy habits if they don’t choose to work on it.

They realised the importance of exercise, social interaction and much more.

I believe the degree of challenge is equal to the degree of growth my clients experienced through the pandemic.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

Nobody is waking up dedicating their life to making yours better, that’s your job!

Whether or not you face your pains and expand or seek pleasure and shrink, you must live with the consequences.

By growing and empowering yourself you give others around you permission to do the same.

Investing time, energy and money into your own personal development is invaluable.

Sometimes you need to be selfish so that you can be more selfless. How can you give if you don’t have?

Whether you pursue change, growth and transformation or not doesn’t matter because transformation is continually occurring. The question is, do you want to shape your destiny or let other people shape it for you?

Learning what your values are is the most important thing you can do to transform yourself. When you know your values, no matter what happens, you can begin to see everything as on the way instead of in the way to your transformation

I could go on, honestly, but I guess these are just a few lessons I learned from the pandemic.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I am a Mind, Health and Body Coach.

It’s my mission to build a successful coaching business which significantly impacts ever greater numbers of people by bridging the gap between fitness and personal development through my signature coaching programme: Becoming Your Best.

To know me I believe it helps to know my values: Self mastery, Coaching Service and Business Development.

Right now this is what is most important to me, it’s what I’m most deeply inspired to do.

I started out in August 2019 as a Personal Trainer, working 1 on 1 with clients to become healthier, happier, fitter and stronger.

6 months in, the pandemic hit.

Gym’s closed. My main source of income was halted. Luckily I got funding from the government to keep me going.

I had just graduated from college after having completed my diploma in Fitness, Health and Exercise, subjects I have been passionate about since beginning my own fitness journey in 2015.

My gran passed away in 2014 and less than a year later my mother did too at the young age of 32 from a brain aneurysm.

She had a lot going on. Chronically stressed, she carried a lot of emotional baggage which I believe was a big reason behind her drink and drug abuse which often carried over to domestic abuse.

I am the oldest of 4.

3 of my younger brothers had special needs and learning disabilities. I was often looked at to be the responsible one.

I’m telling you this because I believe my experiences growing up shaped me into the coach I am today.

I often felt worthless, out of control of myself and my emotions and I had this constant anger and aggression inside of me.

My uncles introduced me to fitness.

They gave me the opportunity to channel my emotional energy into exercise (I had a lot built up so I tapped into it and gave it my all every session).

I still remember the shivers I’d get all over my body when I would push myself in training. It was a drug like no other, you could say I became addicted. Not to the change in my body, that was a bonus, but the feeling I’d get from pushing myself through pain. I absolutely loved it.

Ever since starting in fitness I have been on a constant journey of growth and development.

It started with the physical, moved to the mental, now I’m expanding vocationally, financially and in my relationships.

Seeds were planted when I started in the gym. From then until now I’m still watering them. Except they’re not seeds anymore. They’re great oaks now, and they’ve got a lot of growth ahead of them.

So to summarise a long and bumpy journey full of ups and downs: fitness (and then personal development) was so impactful to my life that I felt called to share it with those around me.

So here I am.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

Great question.

Like everybody I’ve had many obstacles, but the one that shaped me most… that’s probably yet to come.

But right now… I would say it was removing myself from social circles that were limiting my growth and didn’t align with my vision and mission.

When I started my personal development journey at the beginning of 2020 I created a vision plan of how I’d love my life to be. I went into vivid details.

That created friction.

It was very frustrating, stressful, but most of all it was a wake up call.

Going the way I’m going, I’ll never achieve my dream life. That was a tough pill to swallow.

For months through the lockdown, when I wasn’t studying I was out drinking and taking drugs.

It felt like the last school summer holiday we would ever get. But because I had set my vision, every time I got home I felt depressed and ashamed. I would cry and isolate myself. It was a vicious cycle that went on every weekend.

But one new year I was partying and when that party ended I made a decision. The penny dropped. I was done.

In the following years I’ve been out drinking a handful of times in comparison to every weekend.

For me, the penny just dropped. Eventually. You know when it happens. It’s a deep feeling of absolute certainty. I couldn’t go back.

But the months after that was where the real pain lied. I isolated myself for 6 months. Still feeling depressed but this time I wasn’t partying.

The light at the end of the tunnel was when I met my girlfriend. She became my best friend and still to this day is the most supportive person I have in my life.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

Personal training was my primary profession. Lockdown then pushed me into online fitness coaching. In that time I worked 1 on 1 with clients and also ran some group coaching programmes.

Through the pandemic, I invested most of my time focused on my personal development.

My fitness business mentor Mark Coles told me this which really stuck with me:

“The majority of your business development problems are actually personal development problems”

That inspired me to go onto learn from my mentors mentor, Dr. John Demartini, a human behaviour specialist.

To say that the knowledge and wisdom I gained from Dr. Demartini was life changing would be an understatement.

I became obsessed with learning from Dr Demartini, it was similar to the feeling I had when I first started fitness all over again.

I would get goosebumps, tears of gratitude and an overwhelming feeling of love and wisdom learning from Demartini, especially on his signature programme: the Breakthrough Experience (if you get the opportunity, do it!).

So how do I innovate with coaching my clients?

I take what I’ve been inspired to learn from Mark Coles and Dr Demartini (as well as many others, although these two have been the most influential to me) and I created a new approach to personal transformation.

The first step in my “Becoming your Best” coaching programme is empowering your mind.

Here I simplify solutions to solving problems my clients commonly have such as low self confidence, overwhelm, frustration.

The second step is optimising your health.

This part is about creating effective habits and routines to manage stress, improve sleep and nutrition, as well as considering the influence of environment and social factors influencing my clients outcomes.

The third step is transforming your body.

Once all the previous steps are completed, my clients are in a powerful position to make a lasting change to their body. Often first developing muscle mass, then once they’re ready, reducing body fat.

My coaching is unique to my experience.

I have created frameworks which guarantee my clients results if followed.

As I evolve, so does my programme.

I am deeply inspired to acquire new specialised knowledge and package it into meaningful, impactful service to my clients.

But then most importantly, coaching them individually to integrate the new information and overcome limitations and struggles along the way.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I focus on the mental transformation as much as the physical transformation.

I prioritise mental and physical health before appearance.

I care about making a significant impact in my clients that lasts and transforms their life, not just a quick fix for a before and after photo.

My service is an extension of me, the knowledge and wisdom I’ve gained that has been impactful in my life and is evolving with me.

I help my clients expand their mind. To love themself and to live in alignment with what’s most important to them as individuals.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

Increased self confidence, transformed body shape, understanding of how to train properly, how to balance their mind, manage emotions and stress.

Overcoming self limiting beliefs, frustrations, anxiety, depression.

Creating self belief that they can achieve their dreams.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

Values determination, vision planning, reverse engineering, chunking, prioritising.

Breathing, balancing perceptions, reframing challenges.

Mind Muscle connection, or mindfulness in training.

The Impact:

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Transform your stressings into blessings, your challenges into opportunities, and love everything that happens with this one quality question:

How is whatever is happening right now serving what’s most meaningful to me?

Stack your answers and pay attention to how you feel.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

I was often judged and criticised for being selfish growing up by my mum, step dad and ex partner.

I felt ashamed, as if I was doing something wrong.

But being selfish is necessary to become selfless.

If you want to give more to others, give yourself more first.
If you want to love more, love yourself more first.
If you want to make a difference in others, make a difference in yourself first.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

So don’t forget to fill yours first.

Your final thoughts?

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here.

I’m grateful to share with you a snippet of my journey.

If you enjoyed this, I’d love to connect with you on Instagram.

I wish you all the best on your journey of becoming your best!

After 2 years of pandemic in the UK the economy and businesses have started to recover and strengthen before facing a range of new challenges for 2023 including facing raising costs and a harder trading environment with staff shortages and higher prices.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

Most businesses that were profitable before the coronavirus pandemic are still doing well and are still profitable.

I am now helping businesses and private firms prepare for a long recession in the UK, which is now the main business topic being discussed in board rooms across Europe.

Also, other areas of business needing higher focus like staff retention, finances after the pandemic, and higher running costs.

Any Business heavy reliant on credit is starting to struggle to find new loans and this will start to affect their cash flow and running operations in early 2023.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

I think one of the biggest obstacle I overcame in my younger years was a serous car accident which resulted in me having multiple operations over 10 years to repair several broken bones.

It taught me many lessons one being, you can’t control the future but you can plan for it.

Another is the world does not stop, slow down or change direction for anyone.

And finally, hard work, support, and direction is the building blocks of any successful person.

Find Life Coach | Meet Sue Hedley: How to Remove Limiting Self Beliefs, Find Confidence and Live Their Best Life?

Sue Hedley is one of the coaches that we found this month and we did a little interview with her. She impressed us with her expertise and dedication.

She has been coaching and mentoring teams and individuals for over 25 years. When she was 50 years old she discovered the power of life coaching and set up her practice.

She had a very traumatic childhood that left her with negative self beliefs that were the biggest obstacles in her life.

Now, she focuses on helping as many people as she can to find and remove their negative self beliefs, find confidence and live their best life. Here is what she said.

Meet Life Coach Sue Hedley:

Find-Life-Coach-Meet-Sue-Hedley

Name: Sue Hedley

Pillar: The Spirit

Who is this coach for: Anyone who wants to find and remove their limiting self beliefs, find confidence and live their best life.

How they can help: By using range of tools, NLP techniques, and hypnotherapy, as well as growth and transformation life coaching, always upgrading her toolbox to better serve her clients.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these Pandemic times?

Thank you for asking.

We are all doing well.

Now that the pandemic has settled down into something we live with, it’s wonderful to be able to spend quality time together again and see old and dear friends we missed.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

It has affected my clients and me.

Some clients have found it hard to get their motivation back to pre pandemic levels.

Some feel lost, like they don’t know what is important anymore.

The pandemic has changed all of us to some extent and that can feel uncomfortable.

I believe it’s important to avoid looking backwards and comparing with who you used to be.

Start afresh in the here and now and accept that you have changed.

The coronavirus highlighted for me the value of having time to be in the moment and enjoy simple things, nature, family, peace.

It helped me to figure out who I wanted to coach and what I had to offer, because I had the time to reflect.

Most importantly it taught me that we never know what is round the corner, so if you know what your dream is, admit it and find a way to make it happen.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

That you can be happy with what you have, right here, right now.

Not to keep putting off feeling happy.

We tend to externalise being happy and confident.

I’ll be happy when… I’ll feel confident if… in fact, the trick is to feel those things in the now.

Build them with what you already have inside of you.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I’ve been coaching and mentoring individuals and teams for 25+ years.

Starting when I worked on global IT projects and then since 2019 recently as a certified and professionally accredited coach.

When I was in my 50s I was very stressed and as a result found out about life coaching.

This started my new journey.

I retrained and set up my coaching practise.

I have kept on learning and now use both NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and hypnotherapy as part of my coaching toolbox.

I’m 62 now and on a mission to help as many people as possible.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

My own limiting self belief that I wasn’t good enough to succeed.

I had a fairly traumatic childhood which left me with some negative self beliefs I needed to deal with before I could feel confident.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

First of all I coach based on my own life experience.

I show ladies who are 45+ that work related stress and a change in life circumstances is a great motivator for change.

My coaching is client centric.

Focusing on who you are now, what your values are, how you keep yourself stuck and of course what your future looks like.

The process I use focuses on giving my clients the courage to unlock their dream and the mindset and confidence to make it a reality.

As I say I have walked in their shoes so I know the internal and external challenges they face on their journey.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I incorporate NLP and hypnotherapy into my coaching, uniquely blending them for each client.

I focus on finding and removing limiting self beliefs because these are the biggest barriers we face. I know this from my own journey.

I give my clients a toolbox of techniques that they can use again and again, helping them live their lives differently.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

1. They learn to listen to and trust their inner voice (their inner wisdom if you like).

2. They learn the art of feeling confident.

3. They stop feeling guilty about looking after themselves.

4. They learn to recognise when they are holding themselves back and use the tools, I’ve shared with them to work through it.

5. They start living the life they dreamed of. It’s addictive.

I am so excited to tell you about a new business support programme “She Means Business”. It launches on the 17th of March.

I am doing this in partnership with By Nature Consulting. Together we want to support women who want to start their own business.

We’ll provide seminars, workshops and ongoing support which cover both tax, company set-up etc and business coaching.

We want to take the overwhelm out of what is a challenging time and get you on the path to success.

Our first free seminar is at 12am on the 17th of March.

Email [email protected] to register for our first seminar.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

I have a range of tools in my confidence coaching toolbox.

I use NLP techniques and hypnotherapy, as well as growth and transformation life coaching.

I am independently accredited with the IAPC&M and the CMA.

Which means I have access to ongoing CPD (continuing professional development) and learning.

These organisations are valuable tools in my toolbox, to reassure my clients that I take the business of coaching very seriously and to help me constantly improve.

The Impact:

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Remember confidence and happiness come from the inside, not from what other people think of you, or what material goods you have.

Spend time with people who build you up.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

Loving and being loved will change your life.

That includes loving yourself.

Your final thoughts?

There are many coaches out there.

Find a coach who is trained, independently accredited, and insured, so you know you are in safe hands.

Find a coach who is all those things above and who has experienced where you are now.

If they’ve walked in your shoes, you will get better coaching.

Talk to me if you are a professional female, 45+ and fed up with feeling stressed, dissatisfied, and/or confused.

I’ll help you unlock that hidden dream, dust it off and start making it a reality.

Someone helped me when I was so low and needed it.

I’d love to help anyone out there reading this who needs help now.

Don’t be nervous.

Just get in touch and we’ll have a free, no strings chat.

Let’s start exploring together.

It is characterized by an extreme fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image, leading to

While it is a serious medical condition, various treatment options are available for those
suffering from anorexia nervosa.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the treatments that can be used to help manage the symptoms of this disorder.

What Causes Anorexia?

The exact cause of anorexia is unknown, but it may be related to a combination of genetic, environmental, psychological, and biological factors.

People with a family history of eating disorders are at greater risk for developing anorexia.

Other factors that increase risk include having a perfectionist personality type or being involved in certain activities, such as ballet or gymnastics, emphasizing thinness or idealized images of beauty.

Signs and Symptoms:

The most obvious symptom of anorexia is extreme weight loss due to restrictive eating patterns and excessive exercise.

Other signs include preoccupation with food and body weight, fear of gaining weight, denial about the seriousness of the disorder, constant feeling cold even when indoors, hair thinning or loss, dry skin and nails, fatigue, depression, or irritability.

Additionally, those suffering from anorexia may also have poor memory and lack concentration due to malnutrition.

Physical Risks of Anorexia:

Anorexia can have serious physical effects on the body, including:

Weakness and fatigue due to lack of nutrient rich food.

Heart problems, such as an irregular heartbeat or even heart failure.

Loss of bone density leading to osteoporosis.

Dry skin, thinning hair, and nails that break easily.

Poor circulation and cold hands and feet due to low body fat percentages.

These are just a few of the physical risks associated with anorexia. If left untreated for too long, these issues can become even more serious.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

CBT is one of the most commonly used forms of treatment for anorexia nervosa.

This type of therapy focuses on identifying maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors that are contributing to the individual’s disordered eating habits and replacing them with healthier alternatives.

CBT also encourages individuals to develop more positive relationships with food and their bodies and explore issues such as self esteem and underlying psychological issues that may be contributing to their disordered eating behaviors.

Pharmacological Interventions:

In addition to CBT, pharmacological interventions may also be used in treating anorexia nervosa.

This refers to using medications such as antidepressants or antipsychotics to treat certain symptoms of anorexia nervosa, such as depression or anxiety.

However, it should be noted that these medications should only be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment, such as CBT or nutritional counseling, rather than being relied upon as a standalone method for managing symptoms.

Nutritional Counseling:

Nutritional counseling can provide individuals suffering from anorexia nervosa with much needed guidance regarding making healthy dietary choices.

A Registered Dietitian can work with the individual to develop meal plans and strategies for meeting their nutritional needs while avoiding any potential triggers that could lead to further disordered eating behaviors.

Additionally, nutritional counseling can also help individuals learn how to better listen to their body’s hunger cues so they can make decisions about food based on their own needs rather than outside influences or rules they have set for themselves.

Treating Anorexia Nervosa:

Treating anorexia nervosa requires patience and commitment from the individual affected and their support system, family members and friends who offer love and encouragement throughout the recovery process are invaluable resources in helping someone heal from this complex condition.

While there is no single “right” way to approach treatment for anorexia nervosa, combining different therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy with medications and nutritional counseling, has been shown to be very successful in helping individuals manage their disorder more effectively over time.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder like anorexia nervosa, don’t hesitate to seek professional help, there is hope for recovery!

4 Key Ways How to Build Better Self Esteem

Higher self esteem is associated with a number of benefits, including higher overall happiness and more confidence in interactions with others.

If you hold yourself with greater self esteem, you’ll be more likable, more assertive in negotiations, and even more persuasive in discussions.

In other words, it’s incredibly valuable for both your personal and professional lives, and some people have suggested that it’s almost impossible to be happy without it.

So what does it take to build better self esteem?

4 Key Ways to Build Self Esteem:

how-to-build-better-self-esteem

1. A Better Physical Image.

Insecurities about your body or your physical image shouldn’t hold you back from feeling good about yourself, but at the same time, working on your physical image can help you feel more confident and more in control of your life.

These are some direct ways you can boost your self esteem by working on your physical image:

Health and fitness:

Consider working on your overall health and fitness.

Eating healthier foods, cutting back on junk food, and working out several times a week can make a major impact on how you look and feel.

You’ll be leaner and more athletic after just a few weeks, and on top of that, you’ll feel accomplished.

It’s a great way to shortcut the self esteem building process.

Your wardrobe and style:

You could also take a look at your wardrobe and overall style.

Are you in need of a fashion overhaul?

Could a new haircut or a few new outfits make you feel more confident about yourself?

Fashion and style are largely subjective, but there are some objectively superior choices here, such as making sure all your clothes fit you appropriately.

Cosmetic insecurities:

If you have any specific cosmetic insecurities, you could work on overcoming them.

For example, if you live in Canada like one of our editors and you’re feeling unconfident because of a few missing teeth in your smile, finding a place for getting dental implants in Seattle could potentially restore your smile back to normal.

We couldn’t recognize him when we saw him on a Zoom call, he was smiling for ear to ear.

2. Hard Work, Practice, and Success.

You’ll naturally feel more confident and good about yourself if you work harder and achieve more.

That doesn’t mean working 60 hours a week so you can make a lucrative income from a traditional job, your hard work can manifest in any number of ways.

For some people, working hard could be about volunteering a specific number of hours for local charitable organizations.

For others, it means practicing a hobby 20 hours a week until you feel like you’re a master of it.

The point is, you have to make an effort.

You have to set goals, work hard, and achieve those goals if you want a higher self esteem.

Once you have a growing list of accomplishments under your belt, the confidence will come naturally.

3. Introspective Kindness.

Many people suffer from low self esteem because of how they talk to themselves.

It’s sometimes very hard to change how you talk to yourself, and it always takes a long time, but there are actionable steps you can take:

Push back against insults and unkind comments:

The next time you catch yourself talking down to yourself internally, or insulting yourself for doing something silly, take a deep breath.

Recognize that this commentary is unproductive, and that you wouldn’t say this about anyone else who made this type of mistake.

Repeat positive things:

Instead, say something positive to yourself.

Focus on complimenting yourself for all the things you’ve done right and listing all the positive impacts you’ve made on the world around you.

Avoid comparisons:

As the old adage goes, “comparison is the thief of joy.”

No matter how successful you are or how happy you are, there’s bound to be at least some people who seem more successful and happier than you.

If you constantly compare yourself to others, you’ll never feel good about what you have and what you’ve done in your own life.

4. Social Improvements.

You can also make some social improvements to boost your self esteem.

Talk to more people:

The simple act of talking to people can make you feel better about yourself.

Plus, this is a great way to meet new friends and build better relationships.

Practice good posture:

Did you know how you hold yourself can have a massive impact on your level of confidence?

Pulling your shoulders back and keeping your back straight, while holding your head up can have a positive effect on your confidence.

Accept compliments:

When people compliment you, don’t reject or avoid them, simply accept them with a “thank you.”

Talk about your insecurities:

If you have people you trust in your life, open up about some of your insecurities.

Sometimes, just talking about them with someone else can make them melt away.

You can’t go from having no self esteem to having incredible self esteem overnight. But with these strategies, you can make incremental improvements that can ultimately improve your quality of life.

Inpatient rehab provides a level of structure and accountability for patients that are struggling with addiction.

Those who are in recovery live in a rehabilitation center during the duration of the treatment.

They will follow a daily schedule that may include individual therapy, group therapy meetings, physical activities, meals, outings, and personal time.

Outpatient rehab provides recovering addicts the option to live at home or in a sober living home while fulfilling their treatment.

This option affords the individual more freedom and flexibility as long as they complete their duties, such as attending weekly group meetings.

Many patients may have the option to opt for inpatient or outpatient rehab if they’re facing drug offenses. In most cases, they may get charged with court-ordered rehabilitation instead of jail time.

4. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.

Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is a treatment option that helps individuals identify negative thoughts associated with addiction.

The goal of this therapy is to instill the realization that the power of rational thinking is not related to external stressors, such as drugs or alcohol.

5. 12 Step Programs.

12 step programs, or twelve step facilitation therapy, are often used to treat alcohol and substance abuse addictions.

It’s similar to group therapy, in which the individual is surrounded by others dealing with addiction.

12 step therapy helps people accept their addiction and equips them with healthy ways to manage their struggles, all while consistently attending group meetings.

There are various resources available to those experiencing difficulty with addiction.

If you are a loved one who can benefit from addiction therapy, reach out to a rehab center or organization to get the help you need. No one should struggle alone.
