This is What Happens to Your Brain On Coffee

How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?

Do you know that 2.25 billion cups of coffee are drank worldwide every day? That’s 1,562,500 cups per minute or 26,041 cups of coffee every single second.

Undoubtedly, coffee is the world’s biggest addiction. It comes from coffee beans which are dried, roasted and ground, and then boiled with water. Because it is a product of Nature coffee has many benefits for the human body, like anti-oxidants.

However, we drink coffee mostly because of its stimulating effect to keep us awake, focused and filled with energy. But I have news for you! Coffee, doesn’t give you energy at all. It’s all just an illusion that the whole world is fooled by.

The trick is done by a substance called CAFFEINE.Caffeine and Adenosine

While we are awake our brain produces another substance called ADENOSINE. This substance is responsible for feeling tired.

The adenosine substance binds with adenosine receptors in our brain and we feel tired. While we sleep adenosine levels decrease and we are again ready to start the day fresh filled with energy.

However, caffeine is very similar with adenosine and when it enters our blood stream it gets to our brain and binds with adenosine receptors blocking adenosine of binding with them.

This trick of caffeine gives us the illusion that we are not tired, which we mistake for energy boost. All that happens is our brain binds with less sleepy chemicals.

The main thing, however, that makes coffee addictive is the chemical called Dopamine. Caffeine stimulates the brain to produce the neurotransmitter dopamine which elevates our mood. Dopamine also helps create motivation.Coffee Addiction Dopamine

Another “great” thing about coffee is that it is almost impossible to overdose on it. In theory you can drink as much coffee as you like.

You probably wonder if that’s healthy.

Many researchers argue about this but all agree on one thing, that in moderate amounts coffee can actually be even healthy and prevent many diseases like Alzheimer’s and depression.

And like we mentioned, coffee has anti-oxidants because it comes from coffee beans.

However, because it has a chemical that binds with our tiredness receptors it messes with the balance of our daily energy consumption.

Because we don’t actually have more energy, drinking coffee makes our brain create new adenosine receptors to let our bodies know when we need to recharge. That’s why we feel a lot more tired when we don’t drink coffee for a day or 2.Adenosine

There are more adenosine receptors that bind with adenosine chemicals and this gives us the illusion that we are more tired than usual.

Coffee also decreases the blood flow in our brain, stimulates production of adrenaline and increases heart rate.

When we are abstinent of coffee, and by this time we already have more adenosine receptors in our brain, the blood flow in our brain normalizes and that’s the main reason why many of us coffee drinkers have headaches on days without coffee.

But before we come to a conclusion, let’s make things more interesting and dig even deeper on the effects of coffee.Professor Russell A. Poldrack

Professor Russell A. Poldrack who specializes in neuroscience and cognitive research at Stanford University in California, recently made a research on the effects coffee has on our neural connections.

Poldrack scanned his brain function for 10 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday morning – Tuesdays with no breakfast or coffee, Thursdays with – for 18 months.

Neural activity on coffee research by Poldrack

Red – Somatomotor Network (SN) responsible for touch, pressure, pain, temperature, position, movement, and vibration;
Blue – Second-Visual Network (2ndVN) responsible for visual perception of shade, position and brightness of objects and converting short visual memory to long;
Purple – Cingulo-opercular Network (CON) responsible for tonic attention and alertness;
Yellow – Fronto-parietal Network (FPN) responsible for cognition and various cognitive activities;
Black – Default Network (DFN) responsible for stream of consciousness and is activated while other areas are calm;

By the visual we come to a conclusion that there is a significant change in the activity and connection of these 5 neural networks.

However, the really interesting thing is that the part of our brain responsible for motor skills and visual perception is more active when we are absent of food and caffeine in contrast to when we are fed and caffeinated.

This can be due to our primary instinct for survival. When we lack food and energy, in this case the illusion of energy – caffeine, our system activates the survival mode to help us acquire the necessities of survival like food, water, shelter.

That’s probably why the areas responsible for motor skills and visual perception are more active when we lack food and caffeine.

Also, when we are caffeinated the purple area (CON) responsible for tonic attention comes into play with both the yellow (FPN) area and the black (DFN) area, which are responsible for cognition and stream of consciousness.

In other words, we have increased attention on whatever we put our focus to, greater ability of acquiring knowledge and our default network is active which means our brain is staying in a rested state.

That’s why when we drink coffee the conversations seem to flow, while writing it’s like the words type themselves (I’m on coffee right now and I cannot stop typing) and executing a certain action seems easier.

How much coffee should we drink and when?Coffee.jpg

Taking in consideration everything we spoke of, coffee is one of those things you can learn to use in your benefit. The secret to this is balance, finding just the right amount that is neither too much so that you cannot function without, nor too little so that you feel no benefit at all.

Scientists agree that 1 to 3 cups of coffee per day is ideal.

I agree with this too as I am consuming 2 – 3 cups of coffee daily. The days I am absent of coffee I do not feel headaches nor I feel more tired than usual. It rarely happens.

Coffee gives me focus and awareness, it puts me in that finish-your-task mode and I find it crucial when there is more tasks than usual which need my attention.

So, I personally would suggest staying to what the scientists agree upon which is 1 – 3 cups of coffee per day.

I would add that coffee is a stimulant which anchors you and gives you awareness of the outer world so it is great for EXECUTION.

However, if you want to play with your creativity and come up with some new, creative ideas, coffee does not help. In this case you need something to disengage you from the outer world and let you explore your inner world. Staying free of stimulants like coffee, and simply meditating is perfect for me.

ConclusionThis is your Brain on Coffee

In the end we come to a couple of conclusions. Coffee doesn’t give us energy, it only fools us to believe that we are not tired.

The biggest reason why we are addicted to coffee is because it stimulates our brain to produce the neurotransmitter Dopamine which motivates us and elevates our mood.

Coffee is considered healthy in moderate amounts – 1 to 3 cups per day – it has anti-oxidants and helps prevent Alzheimer’s and depression.

However, if you abuse its consumption you may end up feeling more tired, more depressed and with a headache on the days you find yourself without a cup of the “black gold”.coffee-times

The best time to use the benefits of coffee is after 10 am and when you need to take action, finish something or simply focus on EXECUTING a task. If you are smart you’ll use it in your advantage to help you build your dreams into reality.Mind Points

9 Things You Realize After You Die

Three weeks after he died, my brother Billy woke me at sunrise and began describing what was happening to him in the afterlife. At first I thought that grief was causing me to imagine his voice. But as my brother began sharing cosmic secrets with me, secrets I couldn’t ignore, I became his student.

Billy taught me that when you’re born, that big pop gives you a kind of amnesia. One of the main things we’re doing on planet earth is trying to remember the things we forgot. But after you die, you realize a bunch of things you didn’t know when you were alive, like:

1. Life on earth isn’t a punishment for your past transgressions.  You aren’t acting out some type of I-did-something-wrong-to-you-in-another-life-and-I’m-paying-for-it-now kind of thing. It doesn’t really work like that. That concept of an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth karmic equalizing of the score isn’t the real deal.

2. You chose your life circumstances before you were born for soul-type reasons that are almost impossible to understand while you’re on earth. If you understood these reasons, life would lose some of its punch, and that losing of punch is a little bit of what enlightenment is all about.

3. Everything changes. When you die, you realize how much. You also realize there are immortal things, things you take with you, and they change too. The Eastern concept of Maya, or illusion, what does that really mean? It means temporary.

4. Life is great, even the hard parts. And we all do things that we call mistakes. But so-called mistakes are ok. They’re just part of the earth deal.

5. You’re meant to engage in all kinds of things on earth, things that may not make sense from a human point of view. So, take a moment before you judge yourself or your fellow man too harshly. Being completely non-judgmental while you’re alive is very advanced, though. You’d have to be a Buddha to be that advanced.

6. There isn’t only one right way for things to turn out. Some endings are happier, some not so happy, but it’s not just the happiness percentage that matters. It’s the music of it.

7. Society teaches limitation. No matter what you’ve been taught, everything you ever need is already inside you. And who you really are is far beyond your comprehension. That’s why living squeezed into the human experience can be painful at times.

8. At the center of everything is an energy, an immaterial material called LOVE. Wow, and how good it feels, this LOVE. You can’t imagine it. You really can’t. There is no way for you to experience the full power of LOVE while you’re on this plane. .

9. Death isn’t as serious as you think it is. It’s actually very enjoyable. Couldn’t be better really. And saying goodbye to the people you love isn’t as serious as it seems either, because you will meet again.Spirit Points

Scientists Discover How Many Portions of Fruits and Veggies per Day is BEST for You to Be Happiest!

How many portions of fruits and veggies do you consume per day? For me, personally, 2 portions of fruits and 3 portions of veggies, per day, is a satisfactory amount.

However, scientists discover a slightly different ratio between fruits and veggies to be optimal for highest levels of happiness.

The study, by health economics researcher Dr Redzo Mujcic from UQ’s School of Pharmacy, involved more than 12,000 Australian adults.

“The results showed that the optimal consumption bundle is around four serves of fruit and four serves of vegetables a day for most well-being measures, and that less than 25 per cent of Australian adults consume this quantity,” he said.

No wonder Australia is considered the happiest country in the world. Even though many factors play a role in this, taking the right amount of fruits and veggies on a daily basis can, in theory, restructure the complete emotional imprint of a country in the long term.

Study participants were asked to rate their level of happiness and record their daily consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Dr Mujcic found participants were at their happiest when they ate five portions of fruit and four portions of vegetables each day.

The well-being benefits derived from eating more fruit and vegetables were much higher for women than men.

Another thing he discovered is that solely eating fruit had a greater impact on overall mental health than eating vegetables.

Dr Mujcic said the study challenged healthy-eating guidelines promoted by many governments around the world.

“Many public health messages, such as the World Health Organization guidelines, promote the consumption of five serves of fruit and vegetables daily,” he said.

“While the combined portion of eight or more may seem relatively high, the present findings are closely in line with recent studies from the UK and New Zealand.”

“Our research indicates that current guidelines are in need of review.”

The study suggests eating eight or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day not only leads to better physical health but improves mental well-being.

“The data has been collected from the same set of individuals, aged between 15 and 93, over a two year period on their dietary and lifestyle choices, along with a number of mental and physical health measures…” he said.

One portion is the equivalent to one piece of fruit or vegetable the size of the palm of your hand.

I will certainly try to increase the amount of fruits and veggies I consume on a daily basis by 1 so I’ll eat 3 portions of fruit and 4 portions of veggies, or the other way around.

Anyway, I think adding more fruits and veggies on your daily menu is not a bad idea.Body Points

THIS is How Arnold Schwarzenegger Suggests for People to STOP Eating Meat!

Even though he is one of the guys who you’d see on posters for protein shakes or maybe even meat eating contests, Arnold Schwarzenegger is against consuming meat.

Someone who wants to become strong like the terminator and have all of his muscles do not need that much meat. In fact, a smart vegan diet can make you A LOT stronger and get you even more of the necessary nutrition your muscles need to bulk.

Arnold is not against eating meat because of some propaganda. Actually the reason why he advocates for eating less meat affects all of us. It’s a serious problem we all face and 7 million people die from it every year. We are driving this train towards a cliff and it takes all of us to change directions.

At the end of this video he is approaching this problem very rationally addressing that it is really hard for someone who eats a lot of meat to suddenly stop. This is what he suggests:

In Less than 2 Minutes THIS Genius Video Debunks ALL ARGUMENTS Against Going Vegan!

Eating meat is something we find normal. It’s what most humans do, so we don’t even question it. But once you start questioning our choice to eat meat instead of developing a healthy natural diet things get pretty bizarre.

You start to understand how wrong the whole process of consuming meat is. And not just that, you start to understand that every problem we face on Earth, EVERY single problem we strive to find solution for, can be fixed if we change the world’s diet.

There are many arguments keeping people from truly understanding what strings are pulled by consuming meat. However, THIS genius video debunks all arguments against going vegan.

Stephen Hawking WARNS Us to Leave Earth before The Global Elite Destroys It!

Humanity’s future is in peril thanks to so-called advancements in science and technology, claims Professor Stephen Hawking, who cited “nuclear war, global warming, and genetically-modified viruses” as deadly threats to our existence.

In fact, taken collectively, Hawking’s numerous warnings are aimed directly at the careless hubris of the ruling elites and their tendency to act in favor of profit — in a variety of fields — without consideration given to long-term consequences resulting from such hastily implemented projects.

Hawking described various “things that could go wrong” to an audience of hundreds. According to the BBC, Hawking cautioned:

“Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year might be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or ten thousand years.”

“By that time, we should have spread out into space, and to other stars, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race.”

“However, we will not establish self-sustaining colonies in space for at least the next hundred years, so we have to be very careful in this period.”

The next 100 years will be crucial to humanity. Why? Because we are on the verge of letting things out of control. And if we lose control we are already beyond the line where chaos meant something else than complete destruction.

However, if we manage to survive the next 100 years and progress in healthy and beneficial scientific discoveries we may actually have a chance to discover the secrets of interstellar travel. This means we’ll be able to colonize and terraform other planets.

“We are not going to stop making progress, or reverse it, so we have to recognize the dangers and control them,” he stated. “I’m an optimist, and I believe we can.”

“It’s important to ensure that these changes are heading in the right directions. In a democratic society, this means that everyone needs to have a basic understanding of science to make informed decisions about the future.”

“So communicate plainly what you are trying to do in science, and who knows, you might even end up understanding it yourself.”

Imagine if all of us understand the basics of science

If all of us put our minds together to invent something that will benefit humanity we may create INCREDIBLE things, things that will benefit the world and are not driven by greed or profit but by the necessities of the human spirit.

Hawking’s theories, of course, haven’t escaped criticism; yet he does maintain a healthy enthusiasm, which was evidenced in this advice he offered young scientists:

“From my own perspective, it has been a glorious time to be alive and doing research in theoretical physics. There is nothing like the Eureka moment of discovering something that no one knew before.”Global Points

Forget about Free Will! – THIS Life Hack will Give You ULTIMATE FREEDOM!

It’s a daunting question – “do we have free will?”

Knowing that everything follows a certain set of physical rules it is quite a possible theory to take in consideration that everything is already predetermined, like a set of dominos creating a domino effect.

The only thing we lack is a powerful enough computer to calculate all the variables and we can have our own artificially created Nostradamus telling us the future.

However, there is something a lot of scientists forget to put inside this equation. Even we forget it sometimes. It is a crucial element. And I believe exactly this is the prove that there is actually free will and the future is yet to be written: YOU!

The Element of YOUThe Element of YOU

There is something between the physical and the spiritual, between the mental and the emotional, and that’s YOU.

The infinite and eternal observer who mediates between worlds. It’s the wildcard.

It can rise above the physical rules and spiritual laws, above the mental patterns and the emotional flows, and CHOOSE.

Because of this element we have free will, the ability to come into the now and actually make a change, to choose our path and rearrange the dominos.

The ability to choose it’s our greatest SUPERPOWER! However, in order to acquire it we need to be aware. We need to know ourselves, all of ourselves, the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental aspect of ourselves.

That’s why I want you to forget about free will for a moment. Leave it for the philosophers to ponder about. I am going to give you:

a Life Hack that will give you ULTIMATE FREEDOM to use your free will!A life hack that will give you ULTIMATE FREEDOM

On a scale from 1 to complete control how would you rate the control you have over all of your actions?

What if I tell you that you are puppeted? And no, not by an evil mastermind on a quest to control the world. No, it’s simpler than that. YOU are controlled by your habits.

If you don’t believe me let me ask you 2 questions. Why are you not living the life you want to live

1 – What is one thing that if you did every day for an entire year, your life would – without a shadow of a doubt – be much better for?

2 – Now, why aren’t you doing that thing?

The answer is that our habits, usually created in childhood, channel all of our attention down a predetermined path.

You must understand something. Even though there is a part of you which is infinite, a big part of you is finite. You have a finite amount of time to live your life and it is completely up to you of what you’re going to make of it.

It is in the realization of this that true awareness comes. However, as fast as it comes as fast it leaves and the next day you see yourself walking the same loop that doesn’t make your dreams more of a reality.

When the awareness comes it is crucial to be also aware of the fact that the same awareness will quickly leave you.Becoming self aware

1 – Write on a piece of paper everything you are fooling yourself that you’ll remember later. Create something, a trigger that will constantly remind you to become aware.

2 – After you place this trigger in a place you’ll see it, think about your dream. REALLY think about it. Think about everything that you would want to be, do, feel, think about what you’ll think. Create as clear picture as you can of your dream.

3 – Now, it is easier to reverse engineer your dream with a clear picture in front of you. Start thinking backwards. Think backwards until you reach your present moment. Write down every checkpoint and goal you’ll have to reach.

4 – Having your goals in front of you it is easier to design your habits. If you need to start working out manage your time to have 1 hour 3 to 4 days per week for it, or if you want to be a blogger start learning the language, start training writing…

5 – This is the tricky part. After you know the habits you need to implement to set yourself on a course towards your dream, it is time to implement them. And implementing them means taking action. And taking action is where most people fail.

That’s why I’ll give you a BONUS Hack specially designed for this fifth step!Get an Accaountability Partner

Get yourself an “accountability partner” for an amount that would be significantly painful to lose. And give it to them.

You would text them every day saying you have completed your goal (of course, no lying because you’ll be only lying yourself) and if they do not get a text one day, they cash the cheque.

Having something to lose, physical thing with value, like money, will give you a different kind of motivation. And after 20 days, or a month, of doing what you need to do your new habits will be successfully implemented and a part of your lifestyle.

ConclusionForget about Free Will! THIS Life Hack will Give You ULTIMATE FREEDOM!

I don’t know you. I don’t know what you want. But I know that NO ONE wants to wake up at 50 and realize that life went by them.

That’s why I want you to take this article seriously. Aside the goofy writing style I feel really strongly about this

Those little things you think do not matter much right now can be the difference between living your dream or having a void of unfulfilled dreams inside you at 50. And all it takes is a little amount of freaking discipline. That’s all it takes. That’s the whole secret and the whole philosophy!

Free will exists and it will keep existing no matter if we prove it or not.

The real question you should be focused on is how much of it YOU use.Mind Points
