Alcoholism is the most severe form of alcohol abuse where someone is incapable of managing their drinking habits.
It’s an addiction, and like most addictions, it requires professional help.
While it’s possible to find alcoholics all over the world, these 10 countries have the highest incidences of alcoholism.
Top 10 Nations with Highest Alcoholism Score:
1. Hungary
In Hungary, more than 21% of the population struggle with alcohol abuse.
Although Hungarians aren’t the heaviest drinkers, they do drink very regularly.
And the number of Hungarians who are drinking regularly is steadily growing, which has led to a growing need for outpatient rehab for alcohol treatment.
Hungary boasts the lowest alcohol prices in the European Union.
2. Russia
Russia is known for its vodka, and 20.9% of its population has an addiction to alcohol.
Drinking is pervasive and socially acceptable.
Alcohol is a major revenue stream for the Russian government.
Russians consume 10.42 liters of pure alcohol per capita according to the World Health Organization.
3. Belarus
Belarusians have a high prevalence of alcoholism with 18.8% of the population suffering.
Alcohol related deaths affect on average 20,000 Belarusians each year.
In 2010, this small country had the highest rate of alcohol consumption in the world.
The government has implemented policies and initiatives, like prohibiting the sale of fortified fruit wines known as “ink,” to curb the problem, but it has done little to alleviate alcoholism.
4. Latvia
Latvia has a high incidence of alcoholism at 15.5%.
The Latvian climate is well suited to growing grains more so than wine grapes, so the main spirit of choice is vodka.
In 2019, Latvia had an alcohol consumption rate of 12.9 liters of pure alcohol per capita.
This rate peaked at 13.2 liters per capita in 2018.
5. Slovenia
In 2023, Slovenia ranked fifth in the top five alcoholic countries in the world with nearly 14% of its population suffering from alcoholism.
The death rate associated with alcoholism is considerably higher than that of the entire European Union.
Alcoholism and alcohol consumption has proven to be such a burden on the Slovenian economy that they began an annual “40 Days Dry” campaign in 2019 to encourage citizens not to consume any alcohol for the 40 days leading up to Lent.
6. USA
Nearly 14% of Americans suffer from alcoholism.
And when it comes to preventable deaths, alcoholism ranks third.
Alcohol related diseases and conditions like liver and heart disease are common among alcoholics, as are fatal accidents that occur as a result of drunk driving and engaging in other dangerous activities while intoxicated.
7. South Korea
Like the USA, nearly 14% of South Koreans are alcoholics.
A custom referred to as hoesik is very commonplace for many South Korean companies.

He found his path to coaching through a mentor who instilled the importance of reflection and communication. From honing sales skills to navigating the intricacies of leadership and personal development, he discovered the universal applicability of coaching across various life domains and organizational levels.
His mindset played pivotal role in shaping his identity. Confronting limiting beliefs became a transformative journey, and he candidly shares how overcoming his own obstacles laid the groundwork for his coaching philosophy. As an adept coach, he employs a unique approach, blending elements of positive psychology, metaphor, and analogy, creating a collaborative dance with his clients.
He invented the Serendipity Engine card deck, a dynamic fusion of oracle, positive psychology, and reflective prompts, providing clients with fresh perspectives and practical solutions to navigate challenges. His coaching style, characterized by a rich tapestry of influences ranging from Taoism to subatomic physics, sets him apart. Each coaching session becomes a creative exploration, where clients lead, and he orchestrates a harmonious interplay of ideas and insights. Here is what he said.
Meet Life Coach Andrew J Calvert:
Name: Andrew J Calvert
Pillar: The Spirit, The Mind
Who is this coach for: Anyone who wants to calm the noise in the mind, gain clarity, and understand the reasons behind what they are facing and how to move forward in life.
How they can help: By using various tools and techniques like The Empty Chair, Self Determination Theory, and the Serendipity Engine card deck for both reflection and to help offer practices for clients to use between coaching sessions.
First of all, how are you and your family doing after these Pandemic times?
Lucky to say we are doing well, a combination of good living conditions (we live on the edge of the rain forest that is Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore) and a close knit family have blessed us.
We had our struggles but a positive mindset, and each of us having a focus (from studies, to art, to teaching, to coaching) helped us get through those dark days.
How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?
The pandemic affected my clients in many ways.
The pandemic magnified many things.
Coping mechanisms like partying, holidays, spa days etc. were no longer available, which laid bare and magnified underlying issues with their careers, marital or social relationships, or even a lack of purpose or meaning in how they were living.
These all resulted in my clients redefining their relationship to the work they performed, the career path they find themselves in and to facets of their life as mundane as the way they commute or the amount of time they spend outdoors.
What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?
1. The power of nature.
I was lucky enough to walk in the rain forest near to my home.
Those walks for 30 to 90 minutes daily, and in all weathers really helped my reflect on my own life, my relationships, my values and beliefs.
If we had not had the pandemic I might never have had the space and time to engage so reflectively.
2. Another lesson was the impact of listening in connecting with other human beings.
Daily I would call friends from school, college, from my time in the US, UK, Hong Kong and beyond.
I realized the power of giving your attention to another, and really listening, how cathartic that can be and how listening deepens connections between us.
3. I also came to be clearer that progress appears in many forms.
And that often the client is making progress but their inner narrative (often not their own voice) tells them what progress they are making is not enough or not a high enough quality.
Helping them explore what their inner narrative is and where it comes from allows them to change the way the see the world and realize greater results.
The Origin:
Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?
I came to coaching through several paths:
A spiritual teacher shaped my journey with questions for reflection and self discovery.
My studies of Eastern and Western religions led to a love of questions (not just answers) and the joy of reflecting on those questions.
On a more practical day to day level, I came to coaching through one of my early bosses, who coached me before and after every training program he had me attend.
That process used my existing skills, communication, story telling and my innate curiosity, to become a successful salesperson (an entirely new skill).
My exposure to coaching skills for leaders, sales managers and retail managers helped me see how coaching is applicable in all walks of life and at all levels of organizations.
As I grew in my career, I found that I and my team got better results (both personal and business) if I coached them rather than told or mentored…
Over the years I’ve led team members who have lost babies at 8 months of pregnancy, faced cancer, family members with Alzheimer’s, and also those getting married for the first time, first time parents, starting a new business, moving city or country.
Each situation taught me the power of the gentle question, the offer of support, the gift of listening.
What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?
Great question; my biggest obstacle, has been my own mindset.
How I thought about what I “deserved” in life, my beliefs about my education, up bringing, life choices, all contained limiting beliefs (and ironically all held the seeds of my growth too) and I still work on them with my own coach!
And it is in the realization that my biggest obstacle held the potential for my biggest lessons helped me clarify my what and how of the way I coach.
The Coaching Style:
How do you innovate with coaching your clients?
I developed the Serendipity Engine card deck to work with my clients.
The deck: part oracle, part positive psychologist, and part mirror… allows me to focus my clients on the chronic situations or relationships they are dealing with through a new lens, giving them different ways to approach what has previously had them “stuck”.
The cards also help me provide mediations or practices to help prevent over thinking between sessions.
The use of forcing connections, uncovering unconscious associations and deep listening really help build, and innovate these relationships.
The cards work particularly well with long term clients to help bring a freshness to our conversations.
What’s unique about your coaching approach?
My love of laughter, organic farming, subatomic physics, Taoism, Buddhist philosophy, Christian values, positive psychology and a host of other ideas, philosophies and approaches to life blend with a solution focused coaching approach.
Each coaching session is a “dance” or an improvisation where the client leads and I follow, using metaphor and analogy to help them connect dots and look with new eyes at old and current challenges.
What benefits do your clients get after working with you?
My clients have remarked about their ability to gain greater clarity around the “what” they are facing AND a deeper understanding about the “why” they are facing that situation or challenge.
They also like the ‘no nonsense’ practical plans we co create to help them get moving in the direction they desire.
One client told me she has been able to quieten the “noise of her mind” so she can, “listen to the whispers of her heart”.
And in those whispers are her dreams, goals and higher aspirations.
Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?
As I mentioned earlier, I use the Serendipity Engine card deck for both reflection and to help offer practices for clients to use between coaching sessions.
I also use a few models, Self Determination Theory is one I use a lot.
The Empty Chair is one technique I enjoy as is the life timeline, which provides the coachee and myself great insights into their values, beliefs and the story they tell themselves.
The Impact:
If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?
I think I’d prefer to have a super ear trumpet to listen to the whole world.
There is so much noise, with so many touting this or that “fix” or solution.
The more someone feels heard, the greater the chance for them to listen to the whispers of their heart!
What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?
How we are all interconnected, the energy we give out as parents, friends, colleagues, vendors, spouses, all reflect on us.
How our thoughts create the world around us, in subtle and not so subtle ways.
Jill Bolte Taylor a brain researcher details her findings tin this Ted Talk.
If our thoughts create our world as Taylor suggests, for me that brings up one of my favorite quotes “whether you think you can, or you think you cannot, you are right!”
Understanding the power of our thoughts has been a great gift and one I still reflect on.
In running my small organic farm, I learned that planning, preparation, and proper rotation are crucial, but that timing, a time to plant, nurture, weed, fertilize, tend, to harvest and to lie fallow, are also important elements for us all.
Understanding there are cycles within us and around us and that coming to recognize and then harness those cycles unlocks incredible potential.
Your final thoughts?
My journey has been a special one, and as I’m fond of saying, “the journey IS the destination”.
Having lived in Europe, Asia and the USA, worked on the land and in office and, worked with machines and people on products and processes, I have been blessed with a range of experiences and skills that allow me to work with my clients to get extraordinary results.

Celebrities are often placed on pedestals as having perfect lives we should all aspire to.
But it turns out they face the same struggles as the rest of us.
One such struggle that knows no boundaries of fame or fortune is addiction.
From drug abuse to eating disorders, addiction has left its mark on many, including some of the most successful and beloved figures in Hollywood.
Here are five celebrities who have been open about their struggles with addiction.
5 Celebrities Who Struggled With Addiction:
Celebrity Story 1: Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most in demand actors today, starring in movies such as Iron Man and Oppenheimer.
But there was a time he was blacklisted in Hollywood due to his drug problems.
The actor was fired from the T.V. show Ally McBeal in 2001 after a drug related arrest.
The actor’s drug addiction is well documented. In 1999, he was sentenced to three years in prison after multiple parole violations stemming from an earlier arrest.
He has been sober since 2003 and continues his Hollywood comeback.
Robert Downey Jr.’s recovery from addiction is often used as a positive example.
Celebrity Story 2: Matthew Perry
Matthew Perry’s addiction story isn’t as uplifting.
Best known as ‘Chandler Bing’ from the sitcom Friends, Perry detailed his addiction in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing.
In the book, he revealed that he began drinking alcohol at age 14.
The actor further shared that his addiction to prescription drugs was at its worst during the time Friends was at the height of its popularity.
He planned to create a foundation to help recovering addicts. Unfortunately, he never got a chance. Matthew Perry died in October 2023 after drowning in a hot tub.
While Perry claimed to be sober before his death, the autopsy showed he had acute levels of ketamine in his system that contributed to his drowning.
Celebrity Story 3: Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is one of many celebrities who got their start on the Disney Channel.
In 2008, she co starred in the movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers.
The singer actress released her first album, Don’t Forget, that same year.
Lovato’s troubles began in her teenage years, leading to her entering rehab at the age of 18.
After a period of sobriety, Lovato suffered a highly publicized overdose in 2018.
She spent several weeks in the hospital and then entered an in patient rehab facility.
Lovato now openly discusses her journey to sobriety.
Celebrity Story 4: Elton John
Elton John has been sober for over 30 years.
The music legend struggled with addiction for over a decade.
In the late 1970s and 1980s, he had a severe addiction to alcohol and cocaine.
He credits Ryan White as the reason why he sought help for his addiction.
White, a teenager from Indiana, made headlines in the 1980s after contracting AIDS through a blood transfusion.
The young boy’s death spurred Elton John to enter rehab.
The singer now advocates for HIV awareness and uses his addiction struggles to help other addicts.
Celebrity Story 5: Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore shot to stardom at just seven years old when she was cast in the movie E.T. the ExtraTerrestrial.
Her addiction problems started at an early age, too.
Barrymore previously revealed that she started drinking alcohol at age nine and smoking marijuana at 10.
By the time she was 12, Drew Barrymore was addicted to cocaine.
At the age of 14, she was institutionalized after a suicide attempt.
After being released, she was legally emancipated from her parents and began rebuilding her life and career.
Barrymore has been sober for many years and is an example of how it’s possible to overcome even the darkest of times.
More often than not, it’s not something you can overcome by yourself.
Most of these celebrities had someone actively working with them.
You need some support group of professionals to guide you through the process. So if there is someone you love that is going through addiction and you want to help them (or if it’s you), we strongly recommend to look for help.

Her story is not just a professional evolution, it’s a profound personal metamorphosis. Battling a challenging childhood marked by abuse and overcoming mental health struggles, she found empowerment through self love and the exploration of neuroscience during the pandemic.
She is utilizing neuroscience, hypnosis, energy work, and intuitive abilities, she designs an experience where clients feel genuinely seen and heard. Beyond business success, she emphasizes accessibility, offering free and paid containers, turning her coaching into a brand rather than a mere service. Here is what she said.
Meet Life Coach Jacquelynn Cotten:
Name: Jacquelynn Cotten
Pillar: The Spirit, The Mind
Who is this coach for: Anyone who wants to find their path and succeed in life.
How they can help: Through various tools and techniques like hypnosis, energy work, neuroscience techniques, meditation, and shadow work, just to name a few.
First of all, how are you and your family doing after these Pandemic times?
We are doing wonderfully.
I actually grew my family in the midst of the pandemic.
My life experience throughout this time, having a baby and losing the father of my first child, is what pushed me to become a life coach.
We have 5 kids total and are a blended family of 7.
We were close knit during the pandemic and blossomed as a family more since the world has gone back to normal.
No complaints here!
How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?
The pandemic really activated something within my clients.
When the world shut down, I noticed that some people really struggled but others thrived exponentially over others.
My clients used the pandemic to slow down and find purpose in life.
It was an honor to help facilitate that for several of them.
It really put a lot of things into perspective for all of us.
I started a podcast called Just Women Talking Sh!t as a byproduct of being lonely and needed adult female friends to chat with.
They all said the same thing, that the pandemic forced them to slow down and focus on what truly matters.
What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?
During the pandemic I learned so, so many lessons.
I built a family during the shutdowns.
In 2019, I was a single mom of one.
I had just begun dating my husband.
I certainly didn’t expect someone so new in my world to want to spend the lockdown with me, but I’m so glad he did.
The shutdowns taught me to focus on what matters.
It forced me to slow down and quit just going through the motions.
I began reading more, being more intentional, following my passions, and pouring into myself.
I finally had a partner who supported me which gave me confidence to follow my dreams while being my most authentic self.
In doing so, I was able to recognize that I had been living a toxic, unhealthy life for far too long.
I wanted more out of life.
The shutdowns showed me that.
They showed me that I did want a family, a husband, and people who love me surrounding me.
Because let’s face it, being stuck at home can really take a toll on your mental health.
I was beyond grateful to have what felt like an “overnight family” out of nowhere.
It helped me tremendously to not feel alone.
It also challenged me to do something more with my life.
I wanted to make my new husband and bonus children happy, yes, but making them proud became my top priority.
I became fully aware of how precious time with those we love truly is.
The pandemic taught me to never, ever take anything for granted.
The Origin:
Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?
In 2019, I was a single mom.
I had started dating a fella but it was still so new.
A week before Thanksgiving that year, I was let go from my marketing position.
I was furious, humiliated, but above all, concerned to not have a steady paycheck coming in.
My daughter depended on me, but I knew with the state of my mental and physical health, I wouldn’t make it at another job in corporate America.
Plus, I really missed my daughter.
I worked so much that I had become the mom who takes her kid to school and put her to bed.
I hated not getting quality time with her.
So I decided to use the month and a half severance salary to pay up my bills and get to work on my own things.
Something in my brain switched.
I didn’t want to be at someone’s disposal ever again so I got creative.
I posted in some groups what had happened and to my surprise, got a huge response.
I was freelancing in no time.
I realized my marketing skills were needed online.
I freelanced for a year or so, unemployment was helping me make ends meet since I wasn’t making much with my business, and then I became pregnant.
Having another baby lit a fire under me like no other.
I decided in 2021 to pivot from freelance work to coaching instead.
After several hiccups, I established myself as a marketing coach and created the Magnetic Marketing Academy.
I launched it one time and one time only.
It was a magical container.
However, every single client told me that although they came to me for marketing, they really felt I was an entire support system for them.
I hated to admit that I wasn’t 100% happy in the marketing industry anymore, so I took a break and started a podcast.
In doing so, I began working with other coaches which lit that fire again.
Early 2023, the Spiritual Support System was born.
The idea came to me in the shower and took life of its own.
I help people around the world unlock their full potential.
It’s a beautiful and delicate experience, journey, and responsibility.
What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?
I have battled with my mental health and self identity since I was a child.
I grew up in a home where I witnessed a lot of drug, emotional, mental, and physical abuse.
As a child, I didn’t know anything about mental health or mental illnesses so I thought I was simply broken.
My anxiety controlled me up until 2020 and 2021, during the pandemic actually.
Considering I became divorced from my first husband in 2018, I was not looking for another relationship.
I finally realized that I had been trying to fill a void with relationships and love when the truth was, I didn’t even love myself.
Between 2018 and 2019, I made learning to love myself and take better care of myself a mission.
I became fixated with personal development and self help.
From there, I discovered works of authors like Mel Robbins and Dr. Joe Dispenza.
That’s when I discovered neuroscience and reprogramming the brain.
I became obsessed with figuring out why in the world I am the way I am.
During this time period is when I met my current husband.
In the midst of the pandemic, September 17, 2020, my daughter’s father passed away suddenly.
He and I were in the midst of a custody battle and things were getting pretty ugly.
This is when it all started coming together for me.
The survivor’s guilt had prompted me to learn more about spirituality and the quantum field.
Since 2020, I have been focused on evolving my brain obsessively.
It’s led me to gain control over my mental health, marry a man who is good for me and good to me, conceive and deliver a healthy child, build not one but two companies during the pandemic, hire employees before the money was truly there, etc.
All the things that used to stress me out, I’ve turned into super powers.
I feel more complete than I ever have and my mental health is better than it’s ever been.
I’m no longer a slave to my anxiety and depression.
I feel so free.
The girl who was too shy to make a phone call is now leading a coaching company, closing sales in the DMs, and living a life I truly love with my big, beautiful, blended, but wild family.
The Coaching Style:
How do you innovate with coaching your clients?
I feel that when people work with me they are part of an entire experience.
My clients know they aren’t just another number.
When we work together, each 1 on 1 coaching relationship is so different, so I always create custom plans based on the person.
What is different about working with me, whether you hire me as a business and, or, life coach, is that I work with the person’s subconscious.
My goal is to help a person unlock their full potential in 6 months to a year.
The way we get such great results is because we go to the root of the problem, the brain.
I use neuroscience and a range of modalities to help my clients get results.
One way I’ve innovated the industry is I am creating a brand, not just a coaching business.
This means that my clients can also simply be customers.
I make it so that anyone can afford to work with me, whether that be in a free or paid container.
I have something for everyone ready to unlock their full potential.
What’s unique about your coaching approach?
I make people feel truly loved, seen, and heard.
I am a psychic medium so I use that a lot when working with my clients.
I have strong intuitive abilities which allow me to connect with my clients in a way they claim other mentors have never been able to.
In doing so, we build very intimate and long lasting relationships.
I aim to ensure my clients never feel like a number and advance in life quickly so they don’t have to retain my services.
I want people to truly grow and leave our coaching relationship behind.
In turn, we both have a friendship we can come back to no matter what phase of life we are in.
I’m not the coach who blows smoke up your ass and tells you what you want to hear.
If someone comes to me with a problem, I am compassionate but quick to help them snap out of the sob story and find power in it instead.
What benefits do your clients get after working with you?
I support my clients each step of the way.
Most of my clients find me and want me to help them start their own online brand with the end goal of leaving a legacy behind, or to help them scale their businesses in the early stages of financial success.
Those who work with me to increase sales can expect to increase their monthly income by $2,000 to $10,000.
Although I am typically hired for and seen as a visionary, at the end of the day, all my clients are in need of life and mindset coaching.
It never fails.
That’s because this business and life work balance can be extremely challenging sometimes.
When my clients initially come to me they’re often battling with mindset and, or, imposter syndrome.
By the end of working together, my clients are smiling, hopeful, confident in their skill sets, making money, and radiating because they’ve found alignment.
They’ve unlocked their full potential!
Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?
Absolutely.
I use a number of tools and modalities.
We use hypnosis, energy work, neuroscience techniques, meditation, shadow work (such as rage ceremonies, burn letters, and energetic releases), channeling, etc.
As far as tools to keep me efficient on the business side, I do have some systems in place that make my life a lot easier.
I depend heavily on Calendly, Zoom, HoneyBook, Flodesk, and my virtual assistants.
The Impact:
If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?
Build a life you don’t want to take a vacation from!
You do NOT have to settle.
Do the best with the resources you have and make shit happen!
Everyone starts at the beginning.
Everyone starts with zero followers.
What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?
Quit worrying so damn much.
It all works out in the end.
I spent so many years just worrying myself about things I needed to do, things I hadn’t done, not being smart enough, pretty enough, wealthy enough, far enough along in life.
When the reality is, we can hit reset at any time.
We can become the person we want to become at any time.
We can change our lives, do more, be more, love more, accomplish more, at any time.
The moment that I learned to “release the timeline and commit to the result” is when everything changed.
I realized I had been wanting things to just happen for me and when they didn’t happen fast enough, I often threw in the towel.
That very thing is what kept me from success I deserved for so long.
So now, I live by “going with the flow” vibes.
I don’t second guess things.
I know that everything happens the way it happens for a reason and now find lessons in every situation.
I don’t compare myself or my success to others, I use it as motivation.
All in all, I learned that when you find alignment in life, that’s true happiness and how you collapse the timeline to achieve great results in any area of life.
Your final thoughts?
To anyone reading this who feels stuck in life, unfulfilled, or like they’re destined for more, don’t daydream, hope, and wish for change.
Do something about it.
It’s up to you to make life what you want it to be.
You have the power to do so!
