First of all, how are you and your family doing after these Pandemic times?

In response to how we’re doing post pandemic, my family and I have settled back into our routines with enhanced vigilance towards health.

Regular handwashing remains a staple, and masks are a must in crowded places, hospitals, and large gatherings and so also the yearly flu vaccine.

The pandemic was a profound lesson in personal hygiene, and we’ve embraced these practices wholeheartedly to avoid a return to those isolating days.

We now prioritize deep cleaning as a regular habit and have become more discerning about our social engagements, minimizing physical interactions to what’s necessary.

This mindful approach ensures our continued health and wellbeing.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

The coronavirus pandemic reshaped interactions with both my clients and my own operations.

Transitioning to online platforms allowed for continuous connection despite physical distancing.

Leveraging robust digital tools like Zoom and reliable internet, we adapted to remote engagements that offered greater scheduling flexibility and the opportunity to work from home effectively.

This shift challenged us to innovate and maintain productivity, fostering a newfound appreciation for work and life balance.

The pandemic served as a catalyst for creative problem solving and reinforced the importance of adaptability in both personal and professional realms.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

The pandemic taught me several profound lessons:

The world operates on a plane of unpredictability and change is the sole constant.

We must never assume permanence in any aspect of life.

During these times, I learned to seek stability amidst chaos and to always be ready for life’s unexpected twists.

It underscored the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and cleanliness, and highlighted the need to support those more vulnerable.

These lessons have reshaped my perspective, reminding me that adaptability and compassion are essential in navigating life’s uncertainties.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

In response to how my coaching career unfolded, it has been a rich and varied journey.

I began my career in forensic science before transitioning to academia as a Physics Lecturer.

When circumstances led me from a large to a smaller college, I sought new opportunities and entered the Oil and Gas industry as a Petrophysicist, where I spent the next 40 years, climbing ranks in both position and responsibility.

Throughout my career, training, mentoring, and coaching were constant elements, allowing me to serve and guide others, often beyond my formal role.

As retirement approached, I chose to harness my decades of experience into a focused pursuit of leadership coaching.

Three years before retiring on January 2, 2021, I began online courses to hone my coaching skills.

Even amidst the pandemic, I achieved my EMCC Practitioner status, and post retirement, I pursued further training, provided pro bono coaching, and earned my Senior Practitioner status from EMCC.

This strategic pivot to coaching was a natural extension of my lifelong commitment to fostering growth and leadership in others, now fully realized in my current vocation.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

The greatest challenge I faced was the temptation to accept the “status quo.”

My commitment to constant improvement compelled me to seek innovative and more effective methods, refining my authenticity and reinforcing my core values.

This journey instilled in me a steadfast adherence to my moral and ethical principles, ensuring I never compromised on what I stand for.

This resolve has profoundly shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally.

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

Innovation has been a cornerstone of my approach throughout my career, driving me to constantly seek fresh, dynamic ways to foster growth.

This philosophy seamlessly translates into my coaching practice, which is meticulously tailored to each client’s unique journey towards achieving their personal and professional goals.

At the onset, my method may begin with a consistent set of foundational questions, but the coaching journey unfolds uniquely for each individual.

I recognize that while my clients differ in their needs and aspirations, they share a common desire for tangible results.

Canva Pro for creating impactful visual presentations,

and ChatGPT 4, which aids in refining my written communications and thought processes.

In the previous two articles in this series, we touched on the profound wisdom that inner peace is your inner power, and that you can cultivate inner peace through silence meditation.

The CEO of Aquiire, the last company I worked for, told me in 2018, on our last day of work together, “You are meant to touch and change souls. Don’t settle for anything less!”

Something about this direct message from him struck a chord deep inside.

Yet, the creative technologist and entrepreneur in me wanted to bring more of my ideas to life.

With the help of some professional friends and collaborators, I pursued the goal of bringing six startups to life.

Then, in fall 2019, everything changed.

My heart’s calling was so strong that I couldn’t postpone it any longer.

I left the tech and startup world for good.

Through winter 2019, I worked on bringing to life, my first book, “Awaken: An Experiential Exploration of Enlightenment,” based on my direct experience of the wisdom of the Masters.

That book was going to be launched with the help of several friends and well wishers in March 2020.

It was then that the pandemic hit the world.

Fear and anxiety loomed large in my circles and across the world.

Suffering and loss of dear ones followed.

Jobs were lost and companies and industries collapsed.

I could feel that pain and suffering palpably.

One day in March 2020, I just felt moved to offer daily live meditations to help people ground themselves in their inner peace through a very simple and direct silence meditation.

I’d guide them in small groups online via Zoom, in short fifteen-minute sessions.

Hundreds of people joined in and tried this out with me.

Many reported back about how invaluable these fifteen minutes were in their stressful day.

Two to three months into it, those who came back every day to participate in these live meditation sessions reported how their lives were changing.. how they felt grounded despite external circumstances, how their families noticed a visceral change in them, and how their calmness blanketed their family members.

This was extremely gratifying.

I took this as a signal to continue my investment in this offering, which I had called The Peace Practice.

Today, as I write this article, we have completed 1000 live meditation sessions of The Peace Practice.

It has taken a life of its own.

Looking back to early 2020, I was going to help guide people to their Awakening and Self Realization starting with my first book.

Life had a different plan for me, leading me to offer The Peace Practice, which connects people to their inner power, while at the same time, lays the groundwork for their Self Realization.

What is The Peace Practice?

The Peace Practice is silence meditation.

Silence meditation is a practice that involves resting your attention single pointedly in the silence of the heart.

It quiets the monkey mind and connects you with the deep, quiet space within, that is the source of inner peace.

Its fundamental structure is as follows:

Fifteen-minute live meditations via Zoom. Anyone can join this for free.

At the time of this writing, these live meditation sessions run on weekdays at 7 am Eastern Time (USA) when I’m not traveling. When I’m traveling, I curate meditations from the growing collection of Peace Practice meditations and send them to subscribers via email to continue their daily practice.

For those who cannot attend the live meditation sessions for scheduling and other reasons, I offer daily meditation recordings (audio and text transcript) for a small fee.

Each meditation follows a general framework:

  1. An inquiry into a specific life issue like stress, anxiety, greed, fatigue, self doubt, or any number of myriad human challenges.

You’d have to invest time, months or even years, to train yourself to run that distance at competitive speeds.

Without proper training, you’d be unable to compete in a marathon, right?

Now, in the same way, let’s look at cultivating peacefulness within you.

If you’ve been caught in the grip of your busy, “monkey mind,” and lived a conventional lifestyle, you must invest time to train yourself to experience steady peacefulness.

Fortunately, cultivating inner peace is much simpler than training for a marathon or other complex athletic feats.

How can that be, you wonder?

Why Cultivating Inner Peace Is Simple

First, peace already exists within you.

That’s why we call it “inner peace.”

You don’t have to go anywhere special to find it.

Second, peace exists in the silence within you.

To experience peace, you need to learn to be silent.

Third, to be silent, you need to rest your attention single pointedly in silence.

That’s it.

The practice of cultivating inner peace is simple and becomes easy with consistent effort.

Have you ever tried to quiet your mind, only to find your thoughts racing faster?

Does it seem impossible to carve out time for peace amidst your busy day?

You’re not alone… many believe inner peace is unattainable in such a world.

The Practice of Silence Meditation

The poem above reveals the art of silence meditation.

It is the art of resting attention single pointedly in silence.

Silence, as referred to here, is not just the absence of words and sounds, but the absence of thoughts.

Think of it as a space beneath your daily mental chatter.

The silence we’re referring to isn’t simply a quiet room or a still moment… it’s the deep, peaceful void that exists when thoughts stop flowing.

When your mind pauses, even for a moment, it allows you to experience the natural peace that lies beneath the surface.

The key to the practice of silence meditation is attention.

Attention is usually lost in thought or in feelings, body sensations, or sense perceptions.. mostly in thought, with some 60,000 or so thoughts per day.

Extricating this attention involves three steps:

1. Relax the body through deep belly breathing.

This frees attention from the grip of physical tension.

2. Let go of unresolved issues, to-do lists, and burdens that occupy your attention.

You can temporarily free yourself from these distractions with a firm intention to set them aside during your practice session.

3. Move your attention into the heart center (not the physical heart but the space within the center of your chest).

Silence naturally exists here.

When attention wanders away, gently bring it back to the heart center without force or frustration.

This process enables single pointed attention in silence.

How long does this practice take daily?

You can start with just five minutes of resting attention in silence and gradually increase the time from there.

Start with just five minutes. Could you spare that in your busy day?

Imagine if, in just five minutes, you could feel calm, releasing that inner peace into your experience!

Gradually, you’ll find it easier to lengthen this time and return to that silence, no matter how busy your life may be.
