The Problem With No Name

Asteya also touches on a deeper societal issue, one early feminists called “the problem with no name.”

This is the separation of the mind from the body, a disconnect from our wholeness.

This nameless void drives people to seek escape, yet they don’t know what they’re running from.

In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self actualization represents the ultimate state of being.

It’s the ability to survive, build healthy relationships, and live in a state of flow.

Asteya is about living with uncertainty, understanding that names, people, and places are ever changing.

Through experience, we learn that the flow of life is always present.

There’s no need to grab on too tightly to avoid fear and greed.

Eastern Ayurvedic medicine offers a similar understanding of balance through the concept of the three Doshas, the energies that govern our physical and mental constitution.

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I have always been passionate about science, and being a chemist is a big part of how I think and view the world.

After years of working in scientific innovation, earning my Ph.D., and contributing to advancements in fields like electric vehicle technology, I realized that while success and status are important, they don’t always lead to personal fulfillment.

I found myself reflecting on the fact that behind every scientific breakthrough are people with unique dreams, feelings, and struggles.

It became clear to me that physical and mental health often go unaddressed in these high pressure environments, impacting not only personal well being but professional excellence as well.

My own experience with chronic stress and burnout led me to explore how organizations often see individuals as just headcounts, important contributors, yes, but often without recognition of their full humanity.

This realization sparked my journey into coaching, where I now focus on helping people manage stress and achieve a balance between personal well being and professional success.

It’s about more than performance, it’s about thriving as a whole person.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

One of the biggest struggles I faced was redefining myself.

We often build an image of who we are based on social expectations, limiting beliefs, and personal expectations shaped by culture.

But when the storm hits, and we truly stand in front of the mirror, it takes an immense amount of courage to open our eyes and hearts and start questioning ourselves.

This is where ego, along with all the expectations we’ve built, can hold us back from embracing who we really are.

The journey of self redefinition isn’t easy, but it’s essential.

It can take years, months, or even just one pivotal moment to finally say, ‘Now I know.’

That realization is what allowed me to step into my authentic self and grow.

And it is thanks to all the struggles, uncertainties, ups and downs, and failures that today I am who I am.

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

For me, coaching isn’t necessarily about innovation in the traditional sense.

It’s about empowering others to see beyond their current state of mind.

When we’re under pressure or stressed, we often lose focus on what truly matters and become fixated on the obstacles in front of us.

It’s as if we create a box we unintentionally trap ourselves in, and although it’s uncomfortable, it becomes our reality, a kind of painful comfort zone.

I often say, ‘we adapt to feel comfortable within an uncomfortable situation.’

Reflecting on my own journey, I realize that I made myself believe that the world around me was to blame for my frustrations.

While the environment may not have been healthy, I failed to see what was within my control, including how I reacted to daily events.

It’s easy to adopt a victim mentality and relinquish control over our own story.

In my coaching, I help clients analyze their situations, identify what they can and cannot control, and ultimately empower them to take the pen back in their hands and start rewriting their story.

There is no one size fits all approach, each person is unique, and that’s the beauty of it.

I offer a non judgmental and unbiased space for clients to reassess, explore, and acknowledge their situations rather than react, deny, or ignore them.

My coaching approach is rooted in collaborative partnership.

We are all doing very well, my mum already had a serious lung condition, so it was a worrying time.

But we were so lucky as when she did contract the virus, the NHS (National Health Service) were wonderful and safely got her through.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

I did have a clinic where about 20% of my clients used to visit, but due to its placement in the building it made my insurers unhappy for me to continue there.

So, I moved all clients to virtual and have never looked back.

I can help people without them having to sit in a car travelling to me, instead asking them to spend 15 to 20 minutes after the session resting and just being, which has further increased the effectiveness of the sessions.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

Not to believe that my business was gone, there was a lot of fear mongering going on, people said I would not get clients (bearing in mind I already had 80% of my client working virtually for the previous 20 years).

So, self trust, knowing that my tools could help so many people.

I attracted in many clients who referred many of their friends, so I ended up reaching an even larger audience of people that I could help!

And, to absolutely know that everyone from all walks of life were affected by the pandemic, my clients come from all over the world and with many different religions, it was very humbling to work with so many different cultures.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I actually started as a chiropractor back in 1992 and found that clients often had recurring issues.

When looking into this it became apparent that different life events, traumas, unprocessed emotions, etc, had become caught within the tissues of the body causing pain, restriction, and contortions to occur resulting in further imbalances.

This lead me on a path of discovery over the last 30 years turning my busy chiropractic clinic into a virtual clinic.

I work with so many people clearing these imbalances so their structure can start to heal more deeply.

Working in this way allows deep traumas to be addressed without us having to ‘know the why’.

We often get caught in the ‘Why?’ but I have found this is the ego mind trying to get answers, trapping us in endless confusion and not feeling good enough, and thereby replacing one pattern with another, time after time.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

A car accident in 1989 brought me on this path, I was told I would never live without pain or have a child.

Here I am 30+ years later with a grown up son and now a grandson.

I may have pain once in a while, but life is so much better than I was told it would be.

Using the tools to help myself become who I am today is what inspires me to work with others.

That’s my passion.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

By using my chiropractic background, I can easily hone in on various imbalances and then using my skills help to clear the limiting beliefs, unprocessed emotions and ‘stuck’ ancestral patterns from the client’s subconscious, so they can start to live more freely from those patterns, making better and easier choices in moving forwards.

I also use my life experiences to help people remove any heart walls that have been in play, preventing us from love, positive interactions, fulfilling relationships, etc.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I work to harmonise the person, their home and career.

By looking at these various aspects, I get a well rounded approach to supporting and clearing old patterns that could be holding us back from being who we were designed to be.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

Clients often say they feel ‘heard’, they feel lighter as though a massive burden has been lifted, some have met their life partners after our work together, some have gained wonderful recognition at work for what they have been doing.

Many say they have a zest for life again and the ability to discern what serves them in life now.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

I use kinesiology, the Body/Emotion Code work, Peace Making processes, occasionally crystals and essences… plus various other tools that I have developed over the years to give the most effective healing possible.

I use Calendly, an online appointment system, with sessions offered over Zoom, Skype, Phone, allowing my clients to work with me with ease.

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Believe in yourself, know that you can do anything that you truly wish to, and that you are enough.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

To believe in myself, due to various childhood traumas I hadn’t felt I could be of any use to another, I felt it wasn’t safe to be seen.

My work has made me realise this just isn’t true and having worked with thousands of clients (who have gone through various forms of abuse) over the years, I have countless positive emails from them, for which I am eternally grateful for.

My friend and I are visiting a quaint small town, walking along the main street.

I stop to admire beautiful bronze sculptures in a store window, while my friend is absorbed in exquisite paintings across the street.

As I glance over at him, I notice something unusual: a clown juggling four dumbbells while riding a unicycle down the street.

Mesmerized, I can’t take my eyes off the scene.

The clown rides past me and disappears.

I look back at my friend, still focused on the paintings.

In that moment, our experiences were completely different, though we were on the same street. Why?

Attention is like a light source in darkness.

Attention is a sliver of awareness, the essential consciousness that enables you to be aware of anything at all in life.

The Monkey Mind

If inner peace is ever present and unchanging, as we’ve discussed in the last article of the series, what obscures inner peace in your experience?

Have you noticed how quickly your mind jumps from one thought to the next?

That’s the ‘monkey mind’ at work, rapidly hopping across thoughts without a clear purpose, like a monkey leaping from branch to branch (hence, the name).

This constant motion of the mind clouds the experience of inner peace, just like clouds cover the vast blue sky.

It may feel like you can’t stop thinking or control your mind’s movement.

From as few as four thoughts a minute to as many as twenty thoughts a minute or higher, the mind can be constantly occupied with thoughts.

Attention, the power source, feeds all these thoughts, along with feelings, body sensations, and sense perceptions every single minute.

That’s a lot of wandering attention!

How to Cure the Monkey Mind

The root cause of the ‘monkey mind’ is wandering attention.

Your attention fuels one thought after another, creating the flood of thoughts you experience.

To cure the monkey-mind, you need to still the wandering attention, allowing it to become single pointed.

This is where silence meditation comes in.

In silence meditation, we practice resting our attention single pointedly in silence.

Rather than battling or resisting thoughts, which is like trying to fight clouds in the sky, we simply withdraw attention from them.

In one stroke, we disconnect attention from thoughts and direct it toward the silence within us.

The Profound Benefits of Silence Meditation

When attention is single-pointedly placed in silence, the seat of inner peace which is your inner power, your inner power becomes your experience.

The more you cultivate silence meditation as a steady practice, the more you strengthen the experience of your inner power in your daily life.

Through a single practice, you can cure the ‘monkey mind’, reclaim your inner power, and cultivate the art of single-pointed attention.

In this state of being you could call yourself in a meditation and flow.

Instead of needing to repress or shut down, the conscious decision is made to wait, stay in the present moment, feel safe and grounded in the self.

Parts of the self that have falsely been projected on the identity in FEAR do not always flow.

The healthy individual can learn to be truthful, identify from within, to understand and solve conflict with both the culture and the world.

By being truthful to ourselves and embracing peace and nonviolence, we can alleviate fear and embrace our true potential.

This process fosters mindfulness, allowing individuals to remain present and grounded, potentially perpetuating a sense of timelessness.
