First of all, how are you and your family doing after these Pandemic times?

Grateful.

We came through healthy, and that’s no small thing.

The pandemic reminded us of the importance of slowing down and really checking in, not just with our own families, our employees, students, and mentees.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

When we launched our SaaS company on Halloween 2019, the plan was conferences and in person meetings.

Then the world shut down.

Overnight, we had to throw out our go to market plan.

But our vision didn’t change.

We knew IT business owners needed help more than ever, so we got scrappy, hosting Zoom calls, building community online, solving problems one conversation at a time.

Because IT became even more essential during the pandemic, the business grew fast.

Three years later, we sold it for eight figures.

It taught us something we carry everywhere now: the best-laid plans might crumble, but if your vision is strong, you’ll always find a way forward.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

That connection beats perfection.

The people and companies who made it weren’t the ones with a polished five year plan.

They were the ones who adapted, who stayed human, who kept relationships at the center.

We learned to stop waiting for perfect and start showing up.

Do the work.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

We’ve always been “kitchen table” people.

Marnie started as a high school math teacher (selling pre calculus to teenagers!) and later led teams in education and tech.

Nick came up through IT leadership and customer support.

We met in the EdTech world and spent years swapping stories about the same themes: students unsure of their path, business owners struggling to scale, and people stuck in the frustrating space between potential and action.

Out of those conversations, we built a SaaS company for IT business owners.

It wasn’t flashy, just one problem at a time, one conversation at a time, but it worked.

We scaled it, sold it, and realized the deeper truth: the real problems weren’t just about tech or strategy.

They were about leadership, character, and knowing yourself.

That, and Ted Lasso (we also wrote the book Lead it Like Lasso) is what pulled us into helping others become the best versions of themselves.

It is what led us to write The Business of You.

We wanted to take what we’d learned at the kitchen table, with our kids, our mentees, our employees, and clients, and build a framework to help people run their lives with the same intentionality as a business.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

More than a dozen years ago, we worked for the same EdTech company.

A company that was acquired 3 times in 18 months.

By the final acquisition, the new company’s values clashed with ours.

They claimed to believe in “raving fans” and “customer success,” but their actions showed otherwise.

We had a choice: stay and compromise, or walk away and build something aligned.

We chose alignment.

It wasn’t easy, walking away from security never is, but it was freeing.

That moment taught us a core truth: success without alignment isn’t really success.

That’s the heartbeat of everything we do now.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

We built The Business of You around the idea that you’re not just the CEO of your life, you’re running all the departments.

HR is where you define your values and set your rules of engagement.

Finance is how you manage your resources.

Marketing is how you show up in the world.

Product Development is how you keep growing your skills.

Every department matters.

And how you reflect on the work of each department is critical: Would you hire you? Would you invest in you, based on your habits and skills?

Our coaching helps people recognize and run those departments intentionally.

And the innovation?

We’re building an app (Blue) that puts a mentor in every student’s pocket, so the coaching doesn’t stop when the call ends.

Our focus is really on helping students ask the right questions, tell their stories, and lead their lives.

This is what they need to stand out in a very automated and crowded world so they can get into the college of their dreams or get the internship or job that is perfect for them.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

A lot of folks say, “Be the CEO of your life.”

That’s a nice slogan, but here’s the problem: most CEOs don’t actually know how every department works.

We don’t stop at the metaphor.

We hand you the playbook.

We walk you through the departments of your life, HR (your values and people), Finance (your resources), Marketing (how you show up), Product Development (how you grow).

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

Character and self awareness are everything.

My family and I are doing really well!

The pandemic provided an unexpected gift of space and focus.

Working from home boosted my efficiency and, with fewer distractions, I found myself developing deeper connections with both my inner self and my clients.

For many people, the pandemic was a wake up call.

Personally, I didn’t experience disruption in the way others did.

For me, the pandemic became a moment of inner transformation.

With fewer distractions, like commuting, I had the time and space to focus on growing my presence in the digital world.

I embraced it as an opportunity to align more deeply with my calling and to refine my ability to help others.

It was about thriving, not just surviving, in this new setup, and I’ve seen this shift in perspective ripple through to my clients as well.

They’ve learned to see adversity as an opportunity for growth, just as I did.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

The pandemic taught me so much about both myself and the world.

I realized that work and connection don’t have to be tied to a specific location, I can thrive anywhere.

More importantly, I discovered that energy transcends physical space.

I learned that I could still connect deeply with others through virtual channels and even saw how telepathic exercises produced even more profound results.

But perhaps the most important lesson was the realization that stillness is a gateway to profound self awareness.

The phrase “be still and know thyself” became my guiding light and mantra during those challenging months, bringing me clarity, peace, and insights I could never have imagined before.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

Becoming a life coach has always felt like my natural path, even if I didn’t know back when I was younger that this is what I would end up doing.

I’ve always felt called to help others on their journey and, as time passed, to share the wisdom I’ve gained from my own experiences and lessons learned.

I initially wanted to become a psychologist and went down that path for a while, but soon realized it was limiting me from what I really wanted to do, which was a more holistic approach.

Over the past few years, as my calling became clearer, I’ve taken active steps to formalize that desire, learning about different topics, gaining certifications in various coaching methodologies and energy practices, and putting my musical background to good use.

As time seemed to move faster and I found myself deeply connected to personal growth work, my purpose became even more refined.

In the past year, I realized just how precious time is and that I could offer valuable guidance to those seeking clarity and healing.

I felt an urgency to step into this role even more and offer both my lived wisdom as well as the knowledge I’ve gained through certifications in different (but complementary) fields.

Now, more than ever, I am ready to offer the world a unique blend of personal experience and expertise that can help guide others through their own transformation.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

This is a tough question because I believe it’s not just one single obstacle that shaped who I am today.

Rather, it’s a series of challenges that built me over time.

But if I have to name one of the biggest obstacles I met, it must be my long search for my inner self, as well as a deeper, true understanding of life’s meaning.

I witnessed those around me struggling with issues that weren’t so different from my own, even if they looked different on the surface.

The real turning point came when I faced profound personal loss at a young age, which forced me to trust in my own strength and resilience.

I had to become my own support system while also being a pillar for my family.

This experience pushed me to heal, find my purpose, and sparked a burning desire to help others through their own struggles, knowing that we all face difficult times in different ways.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

I believe innovation comes from being unapologetically me.

I don’t follow a cookie cutter approach.

I draw on a vast range of methodologies, but I never use a one size fits all strategy.

Instead, I meet each client where they are, tuning into their unique needs, desires, and life experiences.

Listening deeply, I adapt proven techniques with a personal touch, crafting tailored guidance that empowers clients to transform their life scripts.

Whether it’s through practical steps or shifting mindsets, I help them move from where they are now (Point A) to where they want to be (Point B).

I believe that my ability to personalize each journey by truly empathizing with each client at a core level is what sets my work apart, as no two clients (or coaching paths) are the same.

What makes my approach unique is that it’s deeply personal.

I weave my life lessons into the coaching journey, drawing on my own growth, struggles, and experiences to connect with my clients on a human level.

I believe we are all on different paths, but our struggles are often shared, and that shared experience creates a powerful foundation for healing.

I meet each client where they are, truly listening to their unique needs, desires, and obstacles they face.

Yes, I use a variety of tools that I tailor to each client’s needs.

These include energy work like Reiki and chakra healing, along with sound therapy, hypnosis, and(or) meditation to promote balance and connect clients to their higher consciousness.

I also incorporate techniques such as mindset reframing, deep listening, journaling, and cognitive behavioral methods to help shift thought patterns and improve mental clarity.

Movement, massage, nourishment practices, and sleep routines are also part of my deep dive approach to support overall well being.

These tools often overlap, creating a personalized approach that encourages transformation on every level.

I’m continuously exploring new modalities to expand my toolkit, as I believe in constant growth for both my clients and myself.

The right combination of these practices often leads to profound shifts, and I love seeing the positive changes unfold in my clients’ lives.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

One of the greatest lessons life has taught me is that true love, whether for yourself or others, begins with healthy boundaries.

It’s not just about saying “I love you” or offering unconditional love, it’s about recognizing when something, or someone, isn’t serving your highest good and being brave enough to let go.

For example, self discipline is a form of self love, like saying “no” to that evening snack when you know it’s not nourishing your body.

Or, for example, distancing yourself from a friend who constantly plays the victim role, even though you love them.

In both cases, you’re showing love in a way that protects your energy and creates space for healthier dynamics.

Self love isn’t just indulgence, it’s the ability to set boundaries that allow us to thrive, not just live life in survival mode.

At its core, self love and unconditional love for others are one and the same.

They both require boundaries, respect, and the courage to prioritize what truly serves you.

This is the foundation of growth and transformation.

First of all, how are you and your family doing after these Pandemic times?

I am doing well and grateful to have remained healthy.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

The pandemic brought new challenges.

With gyms closed, I shifted focus to online coaching, a practice I had already been experimenting with since 2014.

Virtual coaching requires precision in gathering client data, as the coach and client are not physically face to face.

To meet this need, I developed methods to incorporate tools such as MyChart to review client health markers like blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, metabolic panels, and medications.

This gave me a clear picture of lifestyle factors and whether a client was a good fit for my methods.

During this time, I also categorized clients into three groups:

  1. Athletes (High Performance)
  2. Fitness Enthusiasts (Intermediate Performance)
  3. Non Athletes (Lifestyle and Wellness)

To maintain income during the pandemic, I drove for Uber, while keeping myself active with stability balls and a Teeter inversion device for spinal alignment.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

The pandemic reinforced for me that fitness is about more than physical strength, it is a pathway to raising consciousness.

It showed me that adaptability is essential, and that online platforms can still create powerful transformation when done with precision and care.

It also deepened my belief that health is holistic, combining physical fitness, mental focus, and spiritual grounding.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I married early in life at the age of 21.

The marriage lasted five years, and since then I have lived as a single man, often reflecting on what direction my life was meant to take.

I was not an outstanding student in grade school or high school, despite showing promise as an athlete.

After my marriage ended, I set out to understand why I had struggled academically in my younger years.

I enrolled in community college, where I began learning how to approach studying with more discipline.

In my late twenties, I became both an EMT and an aircraft fireman.

While these roles gave me structure, my athletic drive never left me.

Over time, firefighting no longer fulfilled me, so I began to explore weight training while living in Ann Arbor.

I purchased gym equipment from Don Canham, the University of Michigan’s Athletic Director, and filled my apartment with it.

Within twelve weeks of training, I completely transformed my body.

Neighbors noticed, and I soon began informally training others, discovering what would become my lifelong calling.

By 1995, I earned certification as a coach and launched my first personal training business at Powerhouse Gym in Detroit.

This was the true beginning of my coaching career.

Eventually, I expanded to homes, studios, and other gyms.

After five years of full time coaching, I transitioned into other work while returning to school to deepen my knowledge.

In 2005, I earned my first bachelor’s degree in business.

Two years later, I accepted a position with defense contractor Halliburton/KBR and was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq.

Stationed at D4 Falcon, I managed a gym as an MWR Coordinator (Moral Welfare and Recreation) in the middle of a combat zone… a unique experience that combined fitness with resilience in high stress environments.

When my contract ended in 2008, I returned to Detroit during the financial crisis.

Within six months, I relocated to Las Vegas, and two years later, I moved again to Seattle, seeking a healthier environment.

Seattle has since become my home.

Here, I completed my graduate education in the psychology of sport while continuing to train clients.

I was honored as Thumbtack.com’s Personal Trainer of the Year for two consecutive years, and in 2017 completed my second degree.

I also became certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in 2009 while still residing in Las Vegas, where my master’s study actually began.

I later accomplished a second bachelor’s in the Study of Metaphysics to strengthen my philosophy between the understanding of God and reality.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

Life inevitably brings trauma, which often diverts us from the intuitive path of our soul.

Yet healing begins with self belief.

One of my biggest obstacles was overcoming doubt and setbacks from my early years, when I was not a strong student and often questioned my direction.

Through discipline, faith, and self belief, I learned to trust my intuition and allow it to guide me.

Trusting our intuitive impulses allows us to navigate challenges with resilience.

It also improves the understanding of the south node in our human design in relation to personality development in the north node, when a greater understanding of life’s pathway comes about.

I encourage clients to write down their dreams, as dreams are a language of the soul.

Patterns emerge over time, and those patterns can point us toward our true calling.

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

I innovate by combining traditional strength and fitness coaching with psychological and spiritual frameworks.

For example, I integrate health markers such as lab reports into training programs, while also using tools like NLP and Human Design for deeper awareness.

I also adjust programs based on whether clients need a more yang (active) or yin (restorative) approach, balancing performance with recovery.

This personalized style allows me to meet people where they are while guiding them toward transformation.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

What makes my approach unique is the way I unite fitness, psychology, and spirituality.

I am not just focused on building muscle or achieving athletic performance… I want clients to understand that fitness is also a form of self discovery.

By combining physical training, mental strategies, and metaphysical study, I help clients achieve not only stronger bodies but also greater awareness and purpose.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

My clients typically engage in a 12 week training cycle.

During this time, they learn proper training methods and build discipline.

They also discover whether their energy needs to be directed toward a more active (yang) or restorative (yin) practice.

Most importantly, they gain a deeper awareness of how external performance aligns with internal growth and balance.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

I coach through both fitness and life coaching platforms.

Fitness Coaching: Initial client intake includes a review of health markers via lab reports (BP, cholesterol, glucose, CMP panels, and prescribed medications). This ensures training is personalized and safe.

Life Coaching: I am certified in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), a therapeutic method that enhances communication, rewires behavior patterns, and fosters greater self awareness.

NLP Foundations:

Neuro: How body and mind shape communication.

Linguistic: The role of language and nonverbal expression.

Programming: The ability to shift mental and physical states rather than operate on autopilot.

I also integrate Human Design charts, when clients are interested, as a framework for intrinsic and extrinsic self discovery.

The greatest lesson I have learned is that everything is energy.

When we align our physical fitness with mindfulness, meditation, and authentic expression, we unlock not just personal transformation, but also the power to inspire others.

I am not a clinical interceptive coach.

I am a Performance Enhancement Specialist focused on personal development, goal achievement, and optimization of performance… more specifically in:

  1. Clarifying values and goals
  2. Removing non clinical barriers

The methods I use range from motivational interviewing, structured planning and accountability systems to strength training, nutrition protocols, recovery strategies, and mindset development.

The pandemic affected everyone.

The pandemic has had a profound impact on people worldwide in numerous ways.

We must live in the present and make the most of every moment we can.

As an integrative therapist and coach, it means that I combine different therapy techniques, including hypnosis and EMDR, to provide personalised therapy for my clients.

When I started working with clients in 2019, I soon realised that my therapy style is solution focused.

Everyone is unique and needs an approach best suited to their personality and the issue at hand, however, people do not want to wait years for a change.

Some of my clients brought questions to the therapy room about their finances, careers, and life choices.

They often needed ideas and advice, and not only a listening ear.

That is why I decided to study NLP and coaching at a Spanish open university, so I could also help these clients.

As this training was part of my MBA course, I also learnt how to assist managers and leaders when they felt stuck in their role.

Moving to the UK was difficult.

I would not call it an obstacle, but I had to rebuild my life from scratch.

It was 20 years ago, and I have never looked back.

a sudden eclipse.

Perception issues, astral mirrors, false memory, cords, entities and a lot more,
making sure you never find your way to heaven`s door.

You might have even been used as an actor in a sick game,
and you caught the blame.

Maybe you have not emotionally matured, being still a wild child within,
being not properly brought up by your illusionary family kin.

Maybe neglected while being brought up,
and you heard a lot “shut up”.

We are doing well.

The pandemic is not a factor in our lives anymore, and we have survived much harder times and come out stronger.

A lot of my clients were struggling with the lack of face to face contact.

Much of their environment was dictated by how they perceived and processed their circumstances.

That is where coaching helped them find new perspectives to look at the same situations.

Everything took a lot more mental energy for me during the pandemic.

It was harder to connect with people.

The only thing that truly gave me energy was helping to make an impact through my coaching.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

That you can have meaningful connections and conversations, create impactful perspective changes, and trigger transformation in a safe space, even when you are not in the same room.

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I actually started my coaching training partially during the pandemic.

It was part of my career path at a large consultancy firm.

After some research, I ended up at the (Co)Active coaching method.

I spoke with some coaches, took the fundamentals course, and totally fell in love with coaching and the impact it can have on someone.

From that moment on, I never stopped learning and coaching.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

We have dealt with a lot of loss of loved ones in a short period of time, and this really puts everything into perspective.

Do what you want and need to do, and do it now.

This also made me study more about trauma and how to become aware of it and deal with it.

That has been invaluable to my coaching.

There were also a couple of times where I tried something new that went against the grain, and I failed miserably.

That hurt a lot and made it harder to see the positive perspectives.

My family, coaching training, and clients helped me take things a little less seriously and focus on what is truly important.

Your friends, your family, and the love you have for them are what matter most.

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

I make sure I keep educating myself in coaching and keep practicing.

The coaching environment that I like to create is one where it is safe to be yourself and say what needs to be said.

This always incorporates feedback on my coaching and the way I interact with my clients.

All feedback that I get, I use to improve and innovate with coaching my clients.

I am always looking for new insights and exercises for impact through books, training, and connecting with peers.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I am told I have the ability to create a safe environment.

I listen intently and help people see new ways of looking at a situation.

This has resulted in clients of mine making incredibly impactful changes in their lives, such as finding a new job, moving to another country, or reconnecting with their emotions to become more impactful leaders.

The only guarantees I make are that I will fight for showing up as my best self for you, creating a safe space, and getting you out of your comfort zone.

I will do this by accompanying you on this journey as your equal and partner.

I have a lot of tools, some of them applicable only in specific situations.

I have an intake questionnaire that usually makes people think and try out new perspectives.

My strongest tool is the level of listening.

I listen with pure curiosity about what could unfold, and I pick up on anything that might be of significance to our conversation.

So many behaviors are automated and don’t even register with most people unless someone is paying attention and asking about them.

When providing executive coaching, I use more confrontational techniques to get the most out of my clients.

It also depends on the client.

That means everyone has what they need to get where they really want to be.

When I quit my job at a large corporate firm, I basically told them the same thing.

All of the spreadsheets, organizational models, clients, and targets are meaningless without people.

So I strive to guide people like a lighthouse to their transformation.

I love doing this so much that I offer the first session for free.

When the first session already leads to meaningful changes and I am not needed anymore, then that is my gift to my client.
