On 18th of January, Monday night, Foxx heard a loud crash near his home in Hidden Valley, California, and rushed outside. He discovered a truck, flipped on its side and almost engulfed in flames.
The vehicle’s driver was still trapped inside.
With another man’s help, Foxx managed to pull the driver, 32-year-old Brett Kyle, out of the truck before fire completely overwhelmed the vehicle.
“As we pulled him out, within five seconds … the truck goes up [in flames],” Foxx told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. “I don’t look at it as heroic. I just look at it as, you know, you just had to do something. And it all worked out.”
Foxx said Kyle’s father, Brad, came to his home the next day to thank him.
It was an emotional moment for actor Jamie Foxx and a dad named Brad Kyle: one of them a hero who saved a life; the other, a grateful father of the rescued – both wrapped in a tight embrace.
“I think we all hope that we can do something when the time is there. But the question is do we act or do we fear our own lives, and he did not,” said Brad Kyle. “[Foxx] was here when he needed to be here. He was here for my son. And as far as I am concerned, he saved his life.”
As life goes by it seems like one big ritual. Every day is the same, we fool ourselves that things never change.
But, once in a while there comes a moment where we need to act. It’s life or death and we need to escape this illusion we are stuck in. We need to do what really matters. A true hero is someone who does not hesitate and Jamie has our respect for that.
Also, let’s not forget the man that was with Jamie Fox because a hero is a hero, it’s beyond fame. So, thank you to whoever you are. We are grateful you are a part of the human spirit.
“This is all that matters,” the Oscar-winning actor wrote. “That a man, a son, a brother’s life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us… No heroes… Just happy fathers.”
According to KABC-TV, Brett Kyle was allegedly driving under the influence when the accident occurred. He broke his collarbone and punctured his lung in the crash. His brother told the TV station that Brett “would be in a much worse situation if Jamie Foxx didn’t come along.”
