Name: Kate Schenk

Pillar: The Spirit, The Mind, The Heart

Who is this coach for: People going through divorce, separation, or major life transitions who feel emotionally overwhelmed and unsure of who they are becoming.

How they can help: By using various tools and techniques like active listening, tailored coaching conversations, emotional clarity work, and practical reflection to rebuild identity and move forward with confidence.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these “crazy” times?

I live with my two daughters, who are now homeschooled.

They came out of the traditional school system after the pandemic, which was a real turning point for us.

It gave us space to reassess what truly matters in life.

We prioritise open communication and emotional honesty.

We often check in with each other and share how we are feeling, sometimes referring to being in the wilderness, as described by Brené Brown.

That awareness has helped us stay connected, supportive, and grounded as a family.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

The pandemic was a deeply transformative time for me personally.

I had recently come out of a traumatic situation, and it gave me the opportunity to focus on healing and rebuilding.

It also allowed me to deepen my connection with my children.

We became very intentional about how we spent our time, appreciating the small things, having meaningful conversations, and reflecting on how we wanted to look back on that period in our lives.

One of the biggest outcomes was our decision not to return to traditional schooling.

We discovered that home education worked far better for us, and it is something we continue to embrace today.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I have lived a very full and varied life, including 11 years of travelling and living independently from a young age.

For a long time, I described myself as a jack of all trades and master of none, exploring different paths and experiences.

Eventually, I returned to my roots in spirituality, which had always been a strong foundation for me, especially during more challenging and traumatic periods in my life.

It was through those experiences that I developed a deep desire to help others process their emotions, find clarity, and move forward rather than remain stuck in overwhelm or self doubt.

In 2017, I completed my coaching training, which marked the beginning of my professional journey.

During that time, I also formed a meaningful connection with someone I continue to work with today, and I have since trained in her academy in the United Kingdom as a divorce coach.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

I see these moments less as obstacles and more as defining choices.

The first was leaving my marriage and stepping into the role of primary parent.

I made a conscious decision to become a strong role model for my daughters, to embody resilience, determination, and self belief.

Even now, nine years later, co parenting continues to bring challenges and emotional tests.

The second was the sudden closure of a business I had co run successfully for four years.

It happened quickly, without time for reflection, and I felt swept along by the circumstances.

However, what stood out to me was how much I valued the human connection within that role.

People trusted me with very personal experiences, and I created a safe space for them.

That clarity led me back to coaching, which felt like a natural and aligned path.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned overcoming your greatest obstacle?

One of the most important lessons is that when something is truly aligned, it feels lighter in your heart.

I have also learned to recognise my own value, and that my voice matters and deserves to be heard.

Along the way, I have come to appreciate that there are genuinely kind and supportive people in the world who want to see others succeed.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

It is about evolving and how to help people grow.

Adapting to the client and not forcing the methods is fundamental.

It is not possible to apply the same framework to everyone.

Each session is tailor made to the clients personality, their needs, goals and challenges.

Meeting the client exactly where they are, rather than where they should be or where I think they should be, is key.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I am often described as calm, approachable, and genuine in my coaching style.

I do not present myself as overly formal.

I show up as a real person who truly cares about my clients and their outcomes.

Living in a rural area has also shaped my perspective.

As The Rural Divorce Coach, I deeply understand the unique challenges of separation in close knit communities, where privacy is limited and everyday tasks like school drop offs or visiting local shops can feel overwhelming.

I have lived that experience myself, so I bring both empathy and practical understanding to my work.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

I support my clients not only through the divorce process itself but also in navigating what comes next.

The legal and emotional aspects of separation are just one part of the journey.

Once everything is finalised, many people are left asking who am I now and what does my life look like moving forward.

I help clients rebuild their sense of identity, create clarity for their future, and step into the next chapter of their lives with confidence and purpose.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

My approach is always evolving as I continue to learn and expand my knowledge.

However, the most important tool I use is active listening.

Truly hearing my clients and clarifying what they actually need, rather than making assumptions.

From there, I adapt my approach to best support them.

The Impact:

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Stop waiting to feel ready, healed, or fully aligned… that moment does not arrive first, action does.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

Never give up.

Even in the most difficult situations, it is important to pause, and often simply sleeping on a decision can bring clarity and prevent reactive choices.

I have also learned that health must always be a priority.

Without it, every aspect of life is affected, not just for ourselves but for the people we love.

Prolonged emotional stress can eventually manifest physically, so caring for both mind and body is essential.

Your final thoughts?

Life’s most challenging moments often hold the greatest opportunities for growth and transformation.

With the right support, even the most difficult transitions can become a pathway to a stronger, more aligned version of yourself.
