Find Life Coach | Meet Emma Skilton: How to Use Nutrition for Healthier and Happier Life?

1031

Emma Skilton is one of the coaches that we found this month and we did a little interview with her. She impressed us with her empowering personality and positive attitude.

She went through a couple of hardships in her life. One of them was breaking her back when she was 21. She lost her confidence and physical abilities, but after months of recovery and doing aikido, she started getting her physical strength back.

She developed a Chronic Fatigue later and needed to take a full year off to recover. She started using nutrition and Accupuncture and that helped her get her strength back. Later she discovered latin dance and this led her to become a samba dance performer and teacher, which actually changed her life. But through all of it, it was her positive attitude and faith in self development that helped her.

Her approach now is a mix of all the things that helped her. Here is what she said.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these Pandemic times?

These have been times of change, Since 2020 and the first quarantine I had to change the way I worked.

In the past I was used to face to face events and coaching with groups of people.

During this time I decided to take everything online and since then have continued to coach and run workshops remotely.

My family had to deal with health issues and work changes too.

Much of my time for this period has been supporting my family through challenging experiences.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your clients? Did it affect you at all?

Since the pandemic I have seen many more clients with anxiety and loss of faith in their ability to succeed.

I see that many people are also wanting to spend time and money on self care in a way they may not have considered important in the past.

For my own experience, I found myself questioning how I spend my time and if the tasks I was performing each day really bought me joy.

What are the biggest lessons that you learned in this pandemic?

My biggest lesson in this pandemic is that nothing is certain and we have to make the most of every opportunity.

Also to really listen to your heart and be sure you are spending your time in activities that bring you joy.

I lost my best friend during the pandemic and the the grief was very overwhelming.

I have leaned to be kinder and more compassionate to myself as a result.

The Origin:

Tell us about you, your career, how you started with your coaching career?

I started coaching many years ago as a fitness and dance teacher.

I then coached a large team of independent consultants as part of a direct selling company.

During this period I developed my love of nutrition and empowerment coaching for women.

It was during the pandemic that I really focused on upgrading my qualifications to a high level coaching certification.

What was your biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in your life that made you who you are today?

This is hard to answer as I have had a number of obstacles in my life that have either physically stopped me or mentally challenged me.

I broke my back when I was 21 and I really lost my confidence in my physical abilities after the accident.

I decided to study aikido to grow my strength and learn that I can fall safely and be strong using energy.

Later I became ill with Chronic Fatigue after traveling and took a year to recover.

I used nutrition and Accupuncture to build my strength back.

I then started my discovery of latin dance and this led me to become a samba dance performer and teacher, which actually changed my life.

The thread that runs through all of this was my positive attitude and openness to self development.

Now I can use my experiences to help me coach my clients.

The Coaching Style:

How do you innovate with coaching your clients?

My clients like to work with me as I help them believe that anything is possible and when they are feeling challenged I encourage them to keep going and know that they can accomplish their dreams and overcome obstacles.

Because I take a holistic view to my clients I can support them nutritionally, physically and mentally.

What’s unique about your coaching approach?

I use a combination of nutritional therapy and empowerment coaching.

I have an understanding of what the body needs physically and mentally to be in a balanced space.

What benefits do your clients get after working with you?

The client leads the session and based on their needs at the time I will help them understand the behaviour and how to learn new strategies to support them to succeed in ways they previously thought they were not capable of.

This is carried out in a very supportive and safe space so the Clients feels able to explore areas they may normally avoid for fear of shame or ridicule.

Do you use any specific tools to be efficient with your clients?

I have a large tool kit that I can call on to help my clients.

Two are very useful at the first session:

The lifestyle analysis and the power type quiz.

These help me have an overview of my clients start point.

The Impact:

If you had a super megaphone that, when you speak into, the whole world will hear your message, what would you say?

Be kind to each other and be kind to yourself, we are all a work in progress.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned in your life?

The greatest lesson I have learned in life is that how ever bad you feel your life is, however low you feel, there is always a way out. Never underestimate the power of the mind and what can be achieved.

Your final thoughts?

I love coaching women as I really want to empower them to be free from constraints that they have grown up with that may be limiting their belief in what they are capable of.

There is so much talent and potential out there waiting to find the right space to flourish.
